Book Review--> The Destroyer #1- Created The Destroyer by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir

 Created The Destroyer
Title and Author: Created The Destroyer by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir
Print Length: 187 Pages
Series: The Destroyer #1
Publication Date: 1971
Language: English
Genre: Action, Thriller, Adventure, Spy, Speculative Fiction

When ex-New Jersey cop Remo Williams is electrocuted for the murder of a dope-dealing goon, CURE, a super-secret government agency that doesn't really exist, schemes to resurrect Remo as the ultimate killing machine that will carry out most of its dirty plans. Under the direction of expert assassin Master Chiun, Remo is transformed into the Destroyer and launches a series of secret plots to dissolve the underworld.

Book Review:

The Destroyer series is the bestselling series of over 150 books and with over 50 million copies sold worldwide, it continues to charm readers. Created The Destroyer is the first book in the series and features the ex-cop, Remo Williams. Remo is a cop who is very good at his job. Falsely accused, he is sentenced to be electrocuted but in a well planned series of events is saved by a secret government organization CURE for the explicit purpose of training him become the ultimate mercenary, the Destroyer. He is to cure the American streets from the ruin caused by criminals too smart to be caught by the police and too influential to be touched by the justice system.

Soon Remo is "a man who doesn't exist, for a job that doesn't exist, in an organization that doesn't exist."

I loved the cover of the new version of the book. It is mysterious and intriguing. The blurb is also very interesting and made me say yes to review this book. :)

The book started off so beautifully. I was caught in all the action going on and Remo's thoughts while he awaited the chair. The sequence of events that take him to the secret organization are so expertly described that I could not help feeling impressed with the writing style. It is different, more descriptive and made Remo seem so much more human and connected to me. But all this changed when he reached the secret location of CURE. The writing style takes a dip and becomes  monotonous and somewhat boring. While Remo was expressive in the first part, he becomes a distant figure with a third voice and I could not connect with his transformation from a normal, hardworking cop to the hard, cold, conscienceless Destroyer.

#ARCBookReview: Rock Courtship (Rock Kiss #1.5) by Nalini Singh

 Rock Courtship by Nalini Singh
Title and Author: Rock Courtship by Nalini Singh
Print Length: 166 Pages
Series: Rock Kiss
Publication Date: 30th September 2014 (TKA Distribution)
Language: English
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Novella

Book Review:
David Rivera is handsome, wealthy and most sought after by the ladies who throw themselves at this drummer of the most sought after rock band. But despite all, David is a one woman man and has eyes only for Thea, his band's publicist. While he has loved her for ever, Thea has a bad record with musicians and specially with men who look as good as David.

Can David convince Thea of the sincerity of his love?
Can Thea over come her doubts to give David a chance?

Rock Courtship is a story that explores the music world and the people who inhabit it. David is famous yet he is shy. Thea looks strong but is vulnerable inside.
I was suggested the book by a friend who had read it and loved it so much that she was all praise.
I loved the cover on sight and was very intrigued by the blurb. I have to confess I haven't read many books with music stars but this is so well narrated that I was instantly hooked.

There is drama, intense emotional scenes, a fluid narration and sex scenes that are almost erotic. The story is well conceived and executed. The flow is maintained throughout the book and the dialogues well written to bring out the emotional turbulence faced by the protagonists.

I was a bit uncomfortable with the sex scenes which are too many but the author is able to use them as a means of showing emotions and takes them a bit higher than just sex to love making. So I wont complain too much here. David and Thea, together are explosive, sensuous and burn the whole atmosphere with the intensity of their feelings for each other.

The characterization is noteworthy. I felt empathetic towards David who is hopelessly in love with Thea but always rejected by her. I rooted for him and was impressed by his perseverance and strength. He is truly the Gentleman of Rock and when he did play dirty, he was too sweet and left me giddy with pleasure like a love struck teenager. :)

The idea of sending memos is totally new and made me love the story more. I enjoyed reading the memos and loved the interchange between David and Thea. The last memo was specially sweet and I applaud the author for thinking of such an idea.

Thea made me feel angry at first. I felt she was being unduly stupid by letting David go but then when all the reasons of her abstinence from committing came out, I felt sorry for her and prayed that she take a risk with David. The band members are also introduced in this book and the strong bond of friendship, trust and love is shown admirably among them. I loved David's and Thea's family who are loving, sometimes interfering and always very supportive of them. Both Thea and David's parents have seen many hard times and through effort got a love that is of the forever kind. Their stories of finding love touched my heart and made me appreciative of all the love that I have in my life.

I loved Thea's mother the most. She is strong, wise and knows Thea too well. The below quote that she said specially stayed with me.

"Love has many guises, Thea. Sometimes it's a stroke of lightning as it was for your father, other times a slow building storm as it was for me, but the one thing that never changes is that it must be nurtured. You cant kick a heart and expect it not to flinch."

Nalini Singh is a talented writer and she shows her prowess beautifully in this book. She paints a shiny world of music with parties, groupies, one night stands and then compares the people that inhabit this world to their true selves. Despite being in the limelight and appearing carefree, most are hiding deep hurts, secrets and a personality worlds apart from their ever smiling public face.

All in all, this was a book that kept me hooked, made me laugh and feel too happy and eager to start on the other books in the Rock Kiss series by Nalini Singh. 4.5 out of 5 to Rock Courtship and recommended to all lovers of romance above the age of eighteen. I will be checking out the other books by Nalini and wish her the very best.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publishers and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

Team INSPIRATI Presents--> A web of dreams #CelebrateBlogging

Read the previous episode of the story here

Episode 14- A web of dreams

Roohi was so happy. Mummy, Papa were hugging her and they were so happy. Papa would buy her the doll they had seen in the shop the other day. Maybe she would ask for the matching dress set from Mummy. Roohi smiled as she thought of all the fun she would have dressing her doll. It would look so beautiful in the pink flowery dress that came as part of the dress set. Oh, it would be awesome. Mummy, Papa and her happy again. It would be just like the old times.

A loud noise somewhere suddenly woke Roohi from her dream. At first, she could not make out where she was. The bed was too hard, the mattress nothing like the soft Kung Fu Panda one that she had at home and most of all, where were Mummy and Papa?

Bleary eyed, she looked around the shoe box size room she was in. It looked like an attic with no windows except a small one high up in the wall. The walls were bare, nothing like the soft pink walls of her room or the large Cinderella poster Mummy had helped her stick on the wall facing her bed.

Where was she?

Suddenly, everything came crashing to her. Her sadness at seeing her parents fight, her kidnapping, Kamla's frightening voice telling her to be quiet or the Saab will hurt her were slowly making her long for her happy dreams again.

Cover Reveal--> Under My Skin (Bistro La Boheme #2) by Alix Nichols

~Book Details~
Title and Author: Under My Skin by Alix Nichols
No. of Pages: 130 Pages
Series: Bistro La Boheme #2
Publication Date: October 11, 2014
Genre: Contemporary Romance

UNDER MY SKIN is the second novel in the addictive BISTRO LA BOHEME series. This delightful Parisian version of "Four Weddings and a Funeral" will entertain you with a gripping story, endearing characters and sizzling romance.

A tall well-dressed guy entered the bistro, dripping rain and hotness. He stopped by the door and surveyed the room searching for someone, his gaze lingering on the females...until it met Jeanne's. He beamed and walked toward her, his eyes trained on her and full of warmth. Did he know her? Was she supposed to know him?

Feisty bartender Jeanne and geek-turned-hottie Mat embark on an emotional and sensual roller coaster, as their paths cross at an engagement party, a baptism and a wedding... not counting all the other times they "accidentally" run into each other.

And miserably fail to behave with propriety.

But Mat is an ambitious politician running for mayor of his hometown and going steady with an exquisite woman. He knows exactly where he wants to be five years from now.

Falling for Jeanne all over again is definitely NOT part of his plan.

A tall well-dressed guy entered the bistro, dripping rain and hotness. He stopped by the door and surveyed the room. Must be looking for Rob, Jeanne thought. She tried to peel her gaze off him and focus on the conversation around her. Easier said than done. Aside from his general attractiveness, the stranger was full of contrasts that mesmerized her.
He had long legs and narrow hips, yet his upper body was deliciously brawny. The poor fellow must have a hard time finding suits that fit. Speaking of suits, his was a sleek number cut from the finest, smoothest wool to grace La Bohème on her watch. The trendy jacket overlaid the lines of his V-shaped torso as if it were tailor-made. Which it probably was. On top of all that, his friendly clean-shaven face sported a masculine nose and a firm jawline.

Though he’s trying to keep his grieving mother happy by letting her have charge of the commercial shoot, and though Alicia’s trying to keep in mind that this annoying guy is her boss for the moment, they can’t seem to keep from clashing.
Throw in an overly-handsome prince, a matchmaking mama, and a stunning rose garden, and maybe, just maybe, Alicia can be convinced they have a chance at something real.
Because while she might not be a real princess, sometimes an ordinary girl’s got to take a chance, even when it seems too good to be true.

Genre classification: Western Historical Romance

~Book Review~
This was my first book by Merry Farmer and I was pretty excited to start on it. The cover is typical wild west and blurb pretty interesting.

The story is set in the regency era where England was divided into the stuffy upper class and the looked-down-upon lower class. Amelia is stuck in such a pretentious world. Forced by circumstances to fall in the lower class, she has lost the support of everyone and the supposed love and promises of the man who had once promised her his love. Humiliated, struck out by everyone and left in a hopeless situation, she is a fallen woman, so when he gets Eric's offer to travel with him to America, it is like a godsend.
