Ruined by a Rake by Erin Knightley
It started with a kiss.
When nine-year-old Eleanor Abbington first met her uncle’s new stepson, Nicolas Norton, the boy rudely stole a kiss from her that set the tone for their contentious and competitive relationship. It wasn’t until years later when Nick introduced her to fencing that they finally had a proper outlet for their frequent arguments.
Having just emerged from mourning following her mother’s death, Eleanor is exactly where she wishes to be at the age of four-and-twenty: an on-the-shelf spinster and unofficial companion to her aunt. Unfortunately, her ambitious uncle has other plans for her future. On the eve of his house party, he lays down his ultimatum: either Eleanor marries the man of his choosing, or he'll force her seventeen-year-old sister to do so instead.
When Nick unexpectedly arrives on their doorstep after a two year absence, Eleanor is in no mood for their normal banter. Seeming to know exactly what she needs, Nick challenges her to pick up the foil once more. During their pre-dawn matches, he shows her just how strong she can be . . . and exactly how much he’s changed since leaving. But when her old adversary becomes her only ally, she may very well find herself . . . Ruined by a Rake.

Movie Review--> Ek Villain ~A one time watch!

  1. Release dateJune 27, 2014
  2. Director: Mohit Suri
  3. Language: Hindi
  4. Music composed by: Mithoon, Ankit Tiwari
  5. Producers: Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor

We are told that there is one villain in "Ek Villain" but alas, there are not one but two- two villains running amok here. Guru is our hero or the main villain whose love story we are to witness in the movie. Then there is Aisha who is fatally ill but still so radiant that she can give any healthy person a run for his money. Her skin sparkles, she is forever running from one place to another, helping strangers and ticking off her bucket list. The viewers dont know what has happened to her and then she is cured but still killed by another villain Rakesh (Riteish Deskmukh) leaving Guru crazed with grief and hell bent on revenge.

While I loved the music and the beautiful shooting locations, the story left me confused. What is Mohit trying to show exactly?
He talks about a villains love story which happens mostly in songs and in flashback but the major portion is just a silly hide and seek with another villain who is killing women all over the city and although both the police and Guru know about him, they are letting him go free just to taunt one another! Just before the interval you start feeling like the director has lost track of what he wants to show in the movie. There is a mental asylum kidnapping that just happens with no repercussions, a disease that is killing the heroine but just gets cured miraculously, a hero who just grunts and even though he has no job experience, gets a job so easily that it is laughable etc.

Review Tour Kickoff and Schedule--> The Evolution of Gods by Ajay Kansal {June 27th-30th}

The Evolution of Gods by Ajay Kansal

The Evolution of Gods by Ajay Kansal
Did gods create humanity or did humans create gods?
Did gods create mankind, or did mankind create gods? Why, when and how did mankind begin to worship gods?
Religious scriptures the world over claim that one or the other god made all plants and animals, but science has not yet identified any supernatural power that created and governed living beings.
Was it man who came up with the idea of gods to help him cope with his own fears?
Could it be that ancient people attributed natural phenomena-unfathomable and frightening to them-to the working of invisible gods?
What kind of sufferings or fears made people bow before unseen powers or gods as we call them? When were these gods created?
Who invented morals and methods of worship?
Who wrote the ancient scriptures such as the Bible and the Vedas?
Most crucially, have gods and the scriptures shaped our responses to the world around us?

Njkinny's World of Books & Stuff turns One! ~Giveaway and Linky Party

It all started with a suggestion that I start a blog where I could talk about books, write, make good friends and have loads of fun!

I started with a review of The Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on May 28th in 2013 and since have come a long way with over 170 + book reviews, some successful promo activities to help authors, various articles, some very interesting movie verdicts, got some great awards from very talented people and have made some very awesome new friends. Njkinny's World of Books & Stuff even branched out to start  promo and tour services under Njkinny Tours & Promotions last month and has already successfully completed one tour and looking forward to the next in June!

Book Review: Cowboy Cafe #1- Her Cowboy Distraction by Carla Cassidy

Title and Author: Her Cowboy Distraction by Carla Cassidy
Series: Cowboy Cafe #1
Print Length: 220 Pages
Publication Date: Harlequin Romantic Suspense (1 July 2012)
Language: English
Genre: Romance, Cowboys, Suspense, Harlequin, Series

Book Review:

A mysterious cowboy who follows the same schedule every week and a waitress who watches him but feels a strong pull towards him make up the protagonists of this touching and very entertaining romance. A serial killer on the loose and some expertly added suspense add more spice to this story.

I loved the cover and instantly wanted to buy the book. The blurb is just too good and sold the book to me!

'She'd been watching the handsome rancher for a while, just a lone cowboy eating pie with an empty chair beside him. One night, Lizzie Wiles, Cowboy CafĂ©'s feisty new waitress, went over and dared to interrupt his tortured solitude. Daniel Jefferson seemed shocked by her boldness as he buried himself in guilt over his wife's mysterious death. Lizzie tried to penetrate his gloom, but in the end, found herself falling in love. Having plans to leave town, she didn't want to think of these consequences. Worse, someone really wanted her to disappear—now! Attacked and warned to leave, Lizzie had every reason to go…but she had one undeniable reason to stay.'

A story of two people who are completely different and their journey to find love. Daniel Jefferson comes every week to the Cowboy Cafe where he orders the same things and orders them for two people except no one ever comes. He sits looking at the door with sad eyes, speaks to no one and does nothing except sit.

"He sat, as he always did, on the side of the booth facing the door. He never picked up a menu, and he rarely greeted anyone else who might be in the cafe at the same time.
He was like an island unto himself, sculptured features set in granite as he stared at the laminated tabletop as if it might hold all of the answers to life's mysteries."

Lizzy Wiles works as a waitress in the Cowboy Cafe and she has watched him from quite sometime. With her interest piqued and unaware of his history, she tries to talk to him one day while he sits looking sad with food set for two people on his table. But instead he just ups and leaves.

What is the story behind his sadness? Who does he wait for each week?
Has Lizzy made a mistake by talking to him?

When Lizzy discovers a murdered co-worker, she is thrown in a dangerous situation with constant danger to her life.

As I read book, I was completely hooked and totally entertained. The plot is expertly conceived and executed. I loved the writing style of Carla and her development of characters, settings and scenarios. She beautifully creates a small town where everyone knows everyone with a cafe as the center of activity. The characters are beautifully sketched and although Lizzy and Daniel are the main characters, the secondary characters are also given due spotlight and they pique the readers interest. Lizzy and Daniel are almost perfect. Their attraction is confusing to them which leaves them frightened but also gives them hope. I loved the intense and emotional scenes between these two. The reader is kept interested even if they are doing mundane things like waitressing, working on the ranch etc. which is very noteworthy and shows the skill of the author in narrating her story while also keeping her readers captivated.

The dialogues are just too good and memorable. Some of my favorite are:

1) "You've made me happy again. You've made me think about life’s possibilities."
2) 'He was ready to move on from the tragedy that he had allowed to define him as a man.'
3) "...anger is an emotion that masks the real emotion beneath it."

I loved  Her Cowboy Distraction and give it 4.5 out of 5. A must read, endearing romance with plenty of hotness, intense emotions and a suspense that will keep you at the edge of your seat till the very end. Carlas Cassidy is an author to look out for. I have already started on the next book in the series and am just loving it! Go buy, read and enjoy this cowboy romance as well the whole series. :)

Series: Shelby Nichols Adventures
Publication Date: February 2011
Genre: Mystery, Fantasy, Women Sleuths, Series, Paranormal
Blurb:
Shelby Nichols is an average woman who is married to the only guy she ever fell for. Her life is organized and predictable, revolving around her husband and two children. All that changes the day she stops at the grocery store for some carrots. As the cashier rings up her purchases, a gunman is busy robbing the bank inside the store. When a customer grabs the robber's mask, he is shot and everyone runs for cover. Everyone except Shelby, who finds herself face to face with the killer. The next thing she knows, she's lying on the floor with a bullet wound to her head. Luckily, the bullet only grazes her scalp, and she doesn't suspect any lasting affects until later, when she suddenly 'hears' what people are thinking. With this uncanny ability, her life takes on a whole new dimension. Her kids think she's bossy and too old to understand them, but that's nothing compared to her husband. He says he loves her, but what is it about the redhead at work that he doesn't want her to know? As if that isn't enough, the gunman knows she can identify him, and he's out to silence her forever. In her fight to stay alive, she is saved from certain death by a handsome hit-man with ties to organized crime. This pulls Shelby even deeper into danger, where knowing someone's thoughts can not only hurt her feelings, but get her killed.

Guest Post: My experience of creating and writing Carrots by Colleen Helme
Thanks for hosting me on your blog Nikita!

I got the idea for the first book, CARROTS, in my Shelby Nichols Adventure Series one day while I was shopping at the grocery store. I was planning to make chicken soup for dinner that night and didn't have any carrots. While I was there I remembered a recent bank robbery inside the store, and wondered what I would have done if I’d been there at the time. That’s when my imagination took off and the opening scene for CARROTS came to be. I didn't plan on her getting shot in the head, which would give her mind-reading abilities. That’s just what happened when I started writing the story! After I wrote that scene, I had to save it on my computer. At that point, I didn't know what the book was going to be about, so I just saved it as “CARROTS.” By the time I finished the book, the name stuck…so I just went with it.

Book Review--> Sherlock Holmes #7-The Valley of Fear by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Title and Author: The Valley of Fear
Print Length: 203 Pages
Publication Date: 1914
Language: English
Genre: Locked Room Mystery, Classics, Detective Fiction

Book Review:

The Valley of Fear is not new to me. I read it the first time when I was in the seventh standard and totally loved it. The mystery was totally ingenious and utterly unexpected!

Arthur Conan Doyle had studied to become a doctor but started writing when patients didnt flock to his clinic. Taking his old professor as his muse, he created the legendary character of Sherlock Holmes who is just too intelligent. It sometimes feels like he is from another planet and of a different species. Eccentric, sometimes rude, unemotional and yet a genius like no one has ever seen, he again tests his mental faculties in this novel where a man gets killed in a locked room in an old manor completely cut off from outside at night so that no one can enter or leave it at that time.

How was he killed and who killed him?

A strange and puzzling mystery with missing dumbbells, raincoats, missing wedding ring and mysterious cards left behind, it is a case where nothing is as it seems.

Book Review
When I heard about The Madras Mangler, I was very intrigued. The title is catchy and new. The cover is appealing and instantly made me feel thrilled and anticipatory of a consuming criminal mystery. The blurb is intriguing and catches the interest of the reader at first glance.

A metropolitan city with beautiful beaches, a hot and humid climate that can test your endurance levels and with people who value their families and their culture, Usha brings to us a thrilling tale of a serial killer with no conscience running free in this conservative city. Beautifully and vividly sketched, she brings out the beauty and the social diversity of the city and its people. The writing style of the author is simple and yet captivating. She has created and admirably handled a line up of characters, each with their own characteristic nature and traits. A perfect bunch of suspects is provided and a suitable back story given for each of them. The author is well read and she has done her research which shows when one is reading the book.
