Blog Tour and Book Review--> Beginning With Forever by Lan LLP

Title and Author: Beginning with Forever by Lan LLP
Print Length: 484 Pages
Publication Date: March 2014
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Erotic Romance

Book Review:
"The appearance of love is altered after you lose the person who helped you see it."..."Until that one day when you find another who can help you see it again."
Carson Bradley, Billionaire extraordinaire and handsome as sin, has sworn off love and commitment. He had once loved a girl with all his heart but after losing her he knows that he lost his heart too with her. But after all these years of self imposed ban on loving someone, Carson is deeply affected by the doctor who treats him. Her name is Lillian Ly.

"Can she possibly pour life back into my heart which has been empty for years?"

Lillian Ly has no place for love in her five year plan to reaching her goal but Carson storms into her life and then into her heart.

Can these two people who are worlds apart ever find their forever?

Beginning with Forever is Lan LLP's debut novel and after reading her book, I can say that she has arrived in the book world in style. :)

I loved her fresh style of narrating a story and was engrossed in the book right from the start. While I usually shy away from books that are over 300 pages, I picked up Beginning with Forever after I read the blurb which got me very interested and intrigued in the book. The cover of the book is okay and while now after reading the book I can understand the significance of the lotus on the cover, a new reader will not be able to relate much to it.

Although the plot looks cliched, Lan soon proves that the story is uniquely her own. I loved her writing style. She changes POVs but the change is fluid and very expertly handled. The story line is well planned and executed with well calculated twists and turns.

Guest Post--> Series vs Standalone & Tips to authors for promotion of their books by Lan LLP + Giveaway

Hey Friends,

I was very fortunate to ask Lan LLP, the author of Beginning with Forever, questions that had me wondering for sometime. I asked her the below questions and she was very sweet in sharing her thoughts with me.

Q. Series writing vs standalone book writing- Pros and Cons according to you.

I personally love series. Readers get so invested in your story that they want to continue following the same couple until they find their HEA. Series allow a writer to dive into the characters’ history, making the story more interesting. The cons about a series are: readers hate waiting for the next one to be completed, they hate cliffhangers even more and if an unfamiliar reader picks up your book not knowing it’s part of a series, they’ll let you know how frustrated they are that they read the second instead of the first book.

Author Interview, Blog Tour and Giveaway--> Lan LLP ~ Author in the Spotlight

Hey Friends,

I am so happy to have with me Lan LLP, the authoress of Beginning With Forever.

When I asked Lan about her introduction she said,

"Over a long year ago, I picked up a pen to jot down the first sentence of my vivid imagination. Those initial words were the seeds that grew into my flowering romance book, “Beginning with Forever.” With all my heart, I wrote, rewrote, edited, re-edited and now, I’m finally ready to share it with all of you. My one and only aspiration for this book is to have readers embrace my story and characters with their heart. If I can make someone laugh till their gut hurts, hate the villain with vengeance, cry till their eyes dry out, fall in love all over again, and drool over the hero or feel any other emotions, than I've succeeded my goal.
I’m the sappiest person in the world when it comes to romance. Don’t smirk! I believe in love at first sight, Prince Charming or in my book,Mr. Hot Billionaire, and happy endings. In my heart, every women deserves all three, and they will when they lose themselves in my books. Your fantasy can become a reality with just the flip of a page, so come join me."

Welcome to Njkinny's World of Books & Stuff, Lan!

Beginning With Forever by Lan LLP
Q1. How would you describe your book in 20 words or less without using the blurb?

I’m a bit of a Martha Stewart. I love anything crafty. I design wedding flowers, do photography, interior design, gardening, makeup makeovers. Give me a challenge, I’ll meet it.

Q3. Where would you live if you could live anywhere in the world?

Bora Bora- in one of those over-the-water bungalows with wifi :)

Q4. State a random fact about yourself that would surprise your readers.
I hate melted ice cream. I can’t stand watching people slurp up their ice cream.

I’m a radiation therapist.

Getting lost in a fantasy world where I can control anyone’s destiny.

Q7. Do you see yourself in any of your characters?

Yes, absolutely. This is how fictitious characters become 3-D

#BookReview: Hercule Poirot #25- The Hollow by Agatha Christie

Title and Author: The Hollow by Agatha Christie
Print Length: 384 Pages
Publication Date: 1946
Language: English
Genre: Mystery, Classic, Suspense, Thriller

Book Review:

A man lying by the pool is dying while a woman stands over him with a gun in her hand and several people stand shocked witnessing the scene but Hercule Poirot is not amused. He is annoyed with the scene which he believes to be set up for him.

"I, Hercule Poirot, am not amused."

But is the scene just a setup?

"And suddenly, with a terrific shock, with that feeling as of blurring on a cinematograph screen before the picture comes to focus, Hercule Poirot realized that this artificially set scene had a point of reality..."

A straightforward case of murder of a husband by his timid wife is the first impression but is the case this simple or is there something hidden that is yet to come to the surface?

The Hollow is one of those cases by Agatha Christie that present a splendid character study while also providing a mystery that is completely fantastic because of its simplicity! The story has an almost surreal feel. I felt like I was in a different world where heaven like places like Ainswick and The Hollow existed. A world where life is slow and peaceful. Here in this beautiful world where everyone knows everyone and where they like each other, can a woman like Gerda, who worshipped her husband, kill him in cold blood?

Crippled with hidden agendas, motives and goals this is a case that has Poirot clueless!

"He did not know- he simply did not know.

But he felt he ought to know."

First published in 1946,  The Hollow was later adapted for the stage by the author where she eliminated Poirot from the story.

Agatha Christie weaves a yet another mind blowing mystery that looks simple and yet has so much depth in  The Hollow. To reach the solution to this mystery, Poirot has to solve the mysteries of the characters of the people involved. People like Lucy Angkatell, the hostess, who is absentminded, often childlike but with a tendency to put people in controversial situations and make guesses that often came very close to the uncomfortable truth. Is she as simple as she looks?

"What made Lady Angkatell dangerous, he thought, was the fact that those intuitive, wild guesses of hers might be often right. With a careless (seemingly careless?) word she built up a picture - and if parts of the picture was right, wouldn't you, in spite of yourself, believe in the other half of the picture?..."

Then there is the victim, John Christow, a respected Harley Street doctor who although very good at work is often insensitive towards his wife, Gerda. Unfaithful to her, he is demanding, tyrannical and unconcerned about her happiness.

Gerda, on the other hand, is almost a slave to her husband. She has no opinion of her own and agrees to any and every word out of the mouth of her husband. Unaware of his flaws, she has placed him on the highest pedestal of virtues and worships the ground he walks on.

Then there is Henrietta, a cousin of Lucy Angkatell and John Christow's latest love interest. She is a complex character. A sulptor by occupation, she is quick witted and often ruthless in her pursuit of artistic perfection!

As, John Christow aptly describes Henrietta when he says,

"If I were dead, the first thing you'd do, with the tears streaming down your face, would be to start modelling some damned mourning woman or some figure of grief."

There are other characters of interest as well like Midge, another cousin of Lucy Angkatell; Edward, a yet another cousin of Lucy Angkatell who has been in love with Henrietta for ever and been rejected several times by her; David Ankatell, a cousin of Lucy who has come to The Hollow for the first time and is not liking it there and finally, Lord Angkatell, Lucy's husband who is honorable, simple and often worried for his meddling wife.

The plot is novel, ingenious and simply awesome. Although, the author felt like she had ruined the story by introducing Poirot, I feel the story became more appealing because of him. His bafflement and the unease at the instinctual feel that something was wrong that comes with experience was very exciting to watch and his steps to reconstruct the events leading to the crime and the solution is just marvelous!

Christie's writing style is simple, engaging and she keeps ahead of the reader all through. The extracts from Tennyson's poem give the story a more darker feel and it is from here that the title of the story is taken.

'I hate the dreadful hollow behind the little wood;

Its lips in the field above are dabbled with blood-read heath,
The red-ribb'd ledges drip with a silent horror of blood
And Echo there, whatever is ask'd her, answers "Death".'

Poirot aptly describes the case when he says,

"It has seemed to me from the beginning that either this crime was very simple- so simple that it was difficult to believe its simplicity (and simplicity, Mademoiselle, can be strangely baffling) or else it was extremely complex."

There is so much happening and so many story lines but the author handles it with expertise and makes the story so engrossing that it leaves the reader deeply affected and with a great insight into the human nature at the end.

A book that is not-to-be-missed,  The Hollow left me speechless and totally awed. Full 5 on 5 stars to it and a strong recommendation that you read and enjoy this classic mystery from the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie! :)

Long Time Coming by Edie Claire
4.5-STAR, ROMANTIC TIMES TOP PICK and Winner of the Road to Romance REVIEWER'S CHOICE Award!!!

Years and distance kept the memories at bay. But back at home, the past is ready and waiting to haunt her...

Eighteen years have passed since Joy's childhood best friend, Jenny, met her death in a tragic car accident just a few days after their senior prom. A broken Joy left their small Kentucky hometown shortly after--determined never to come back. But when her father's illness forces her to return, she realizes that neither time nor distance have truly healed her troubled soul.

Plagued with nightmares of the accident and crippled by a vague fear whose source she can't identify, Joy realizes that in order to move on she must face the truth behind several disturbing gaps in her memory of that fateful spring. But the only person who can help her is a man she despises--Jenny's erstwhile boyfriend Jeff, now a respected doctor, whose carelessness as a teenager was the cause of Jenny's horrendous death--and Joy's own emotional destruction. Can she ever forgive? She may have no choice but to try. Because both the danger she sensed--and the childhood friendship she treasured--now suddenly seem very much alive...

In real life, she’s given up on the fairytale ending...
After having her heart broken twice, Alicia Dayne has sworn off men, decided to concentrate on her career, and is delighted to win a lucrative contract to make a commercial for Highborn Mattresses.

She could make the most awesome fairytale commercial ever—except for Jonas Highborn, who isn’t exactly thrilled with her Princess and the Pea ideas, and really doesn’t want a prince in tights representing his company.

Though he’s trying to keep his grieving mother happy by letting her have charge of the commercial shoot, and though Alicia’s trying to keep in mind that this annoying guy is her boss for the moment, they can’t seem to keep from clashing.

ARC Book Review--> Moments in Time #4- Defining Moments by Dori Lavelle

Title and Author: Defining Moments by Dori Lavelle
Print Length: 101 Pages
Series: Moments in Time
Publication Date: 29th August 2014
Language: English
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Review:
Melisa has seen too much sadness, felt too much grief and despair and lost hope many times in the past but she has always managed to fight her way back to happiness only for it to be taken away again. Finally married to Heat, her first love, Melisa felt that life had, at last, started showing happiness to her and maybe, just maybe she had overcome all her difficulties but just as she is trying to reconnect to her long lost son and find peace with Heat, her first husband whom she had buried years ago comes back to haunt her. Will Melisa be able to come back unscathed this time or is this event the final straw in pushing her over the edge of despair and hopelessness?

There is so much happening in this book. While you are enchanted by the beauty of the cover which gives the soothing feeling of that first honeymoon and makes us sigh in anticipation of the next holiday that we have planned, the blurb also makes it difficult not to get intrigued by the story.

I have loved all the previous books in the Moments in Time series but without doubt this one is my favorite. While you can read Defining Moments as a standalone, I will advise you to read the books in order so that you are able to know the characters' history.

The story is new and fresh. Dori throws well calculated and strategic twists and turns that make the reader gasping in surprise and totally invested in the book till the end. Even after finishing the story, I felt like I was still inside the book and could still feel the happiness of a well deserved happily-ever-after that Melisa and Heat got.

ARC Book Review--> Thunder Point #6- The Homecoming by Robyn Carr

Title and Author: The Homecoming by Robyn Carr
Print Length: 400 Pages
Series: Thunder point #6
Publication Date: 26th August 2014 (Harlequin MIRA)
Language: English
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Review:
Seth Sileski had his whole future set at the age of twenty. He was popular, a signed up football player just waiting to become a star and so very handsome but one accident took everything away from him.
Now he is back in Thunder Point and even though many years have passed but the people of the town, his father and his best friend, Iris haven't forgotten his past mistakes.
Will Seth be able to prove that he is different now?
Can he earn the trust of his loved ones again?

This is the first book by Robyn Carr that I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Although The Homecoming is the sixth book in the Thunder Point series but still it is a standalone story and I didnt feel any issues reading it out of order.

The cover of the book is lovely and catchy. The blurb is intriguing and after reading it, I knew that I had to read the book!

The story, although a bit predictable is handled beautifully and Robyn makes it her very own. I loved the beautiful sketches of Thunder Point that the author creates in the readers' mind. The cozy small town where time is frozen and where everyone knows everyone. The people of Thunder are nosy but still so caring and sweet. I wish to visit such a place someday.

~Excerpt~

“Carson, I’m freely offering myself to you right now. Please.” I plead fearlessly. I’m shameless and not above begging for him to take my body. Who is this sex-craved woman anyways?

“Sweetness, you’re making it very difficult for me to resist you, to control myself.” He lowers himself intimately close to graze his soft, moist lips on my forehead, bridge of my nose and then intensely over my lips. The urgency of his need for me is translated through his kisses. Biting down firmly on his lower lip, it appears that he’s forcing the strength of his will to remain tame. Our eye contact is broken when he seals his shut to blind the temptation lying beneath his body. His hands grip the sheets desperately, clawing and then fisting. I think this is his last hope of hanging onto his dignity. “Goodnight Lily, only offer your body to me when you believe it in your heart,” he murmurs and rolls off me.
