#DigitalIndia ~ A dream for India, by India!

Imagine a smartphone in every Indian's hand, internet available everywhere be it rural India or urban India and all Government and non-Government services available electronically. Looks a distant reality, today, but if our Government's ambitious #DigitalIndia programme is successful, all this and more will be made available to the citizens and India will take a leap in advancement!

To put in simple words, the core idea of #DigitalIndia, as envisioned by the government, is to transform the country into a digitally powered society and a knowledge-based economy where everyone is connected digitally and all information is available electronically.

India is already recognized as a known force in the field of Information Technology that produces thousands of IT experts ever year that play important roles in shaping the growth and success stories of the biggest corporate giants around the globe. This prowess in IT can be used and incorporated to deliver government services, integrating of stand-alone services to its customers, and businesses along with establishment of platform that allows easy interaction with government departments. When put in this way, it is known as E-governance.

This implementation of E-Governance is not an easy task given the expanse and diversity of India but still if this automation of Governance with the use of Information Technology becomes successful, would prove to be the first step towards making India digitally developed and, ultimately prove to be a step towards achieving the dream of #DigitalIndia.

There are 4 models in e-governance.
1. Government to citizens
2. Government to employees
3.Government to business
4.Government to government.

IT+ IT= IT (Indian Talent+ Information Technology = India Tomorrow

The main aim of #DigitalIndia is to make all Government services available to citizens electronically and to realize this dream the Indian Government has joined hands with the technology world giant, Intel.

Intel is committed to help the #DigitalIndia mission through its ‘Digital Skills for India’ and ‘Innovate for India’ initiatives. Apart from these, under this mission, Intel and some other IT companies like Microsoft have started contributing to create digital literates in the country by training citizens from all over and aim to literate 10 lakh people by the end of 2015. 'National Digital Literacy Mission' (NDLM) is such a venture where people are being trained to become digital literates.

Similarly, the Government aims to eliminate the "Digital Divide" in the country by providing broadband networks even to the most isolated rural areas in the country. To achieve this 'National Optical Fibre Network' programme is set up where Intel India will work with Bharat Broadband Network to connect 2.5 lakh gram panchayats in the country at the cost of 20,000 crore. When both rural and urban India are united digitally, only then can the dream of #DigitalIndia prosper.

Intel has also unveiled its new educational app called Intel Lean Digital Skills which teaches the basics of using a tablet and is another venture to make India digital literate. It is free on the Android store and is available in five Indian languages including English and Hindi. It is also available as an offline training module and has basic modules on Health, Banking, Hygiene, Education, Agriculture and RTI. It contains all information on Indian Government support in each of the modules and is designed to be used by everyone from children to adults.

#DigitalIndia will improve numerous fields like

1) Education - Knowledge sharing will become easy with the availability of internet everywhere. Students will be able to check for courses, register, study online and interact with other students/teachers irrespective of their location because they will be connected digitally.

2) Communication- With a huge population, communication is sometimes disconnected. People are not able to communicate with the authorities, their problems remain unaddressed and simple services and information remain uncommunicated to people living in remote areas. With the availability of internet everywhere enabling chatting, twitting and other social media platforms like Facebook, websites etc. everyone will be connected and communication will become easy.

3) Transactions- Paying bills like electricity, telephone etc. will become easier. Keeping track of your transactions, getting our problems addressed will also become easier with only a few clicks. This will also eliminate paper with everything being stored online.

While #DigitalIndia is a great programme, it is not without its challenges.

1) With many third party agencies and private players along with the government agencies, the number of people working to make this programme a success is huge. Building trust, coordination and transparency in work processes is a challenge that needs to be overcomed to make #DigitalIndia a success.

2) Providing a strong support system that is both secure and robust to support the huge Indian population. Strong cyber laws are needed here along with information protection measures adopted to safeguard the information against theft.

3) Providing high speed Internet even to the remotest of rural areas in India.

#DigitalIndia is a dream for a digitized India that we are all rooting for and I hope the future is something like the picture below where everyone will be happy and digitally connected with each other!

This post is written for the #DigitalIndia initiative.

Book Review and Giveaway--> Delayed Death (Temptation in Florence #1) by Beate Boeker

delayeddeath (2)

Welcome to my tour stop for Delayed Death by Beate Boeker. This is the first book in the Temptation in Florence cozy mystery series.
This tour runs March 23-April 3 with reviews only. Check out the tour page for more information.

 About the Book:
delayeddeathDelayed Death is Book #1 in the Temptation in Florence Series, a cozy murder mystery romance series with a strong dose of humor and romance.

The title of the series comes from the lingerie store that the protagonist, Carlina, owns and runs, Temptation, on one of Florence, Italy's, premier shopping streets. The Temptation in Florence Series follows the life, adventures and loves of Italian-American Carlina, and of her extended eccentric Italian family, many of whom live in apartments in the same building in central Florence.

The family's eccentric members and their whims and wishes are a never-ending source of amusement for Carlina. While often treated like the family's Cinderella, Carlina is also a sexy, saucy, funny thirty-two-year-old woman.

When a crisis occurs, right at the beginning of Delayed Death, and Carlina gives in to her domineering cousin's wishes, Carlina sets herself on a collision course with police Commissario Stefano Garini.

Book Review
This was the first book by Beate Boeker that I read and I enjoyed reading it. The cover is simple and doesn't look very appealing but once you have started reading the book, you start to understand the cover photo better. I was attracted towards this book by the blurb which is intriguing and engaged my love for mysteries and suspense.

The plot is conceived and executed meticulously and the author throws sudden twists and turns with unexpected clues and throws  suspicion on new people every time you think yourself coming near to a solution to the mystery! Her writing style is simple and yet engaging and I was kept interested in the story right till the end.

The characterization is admirably done which is no small task considering the huge Italian family of our heroine Carlina. Each and everyone has their own quirks and eccentricities which added fun as well as a new level of complication in solving the mystery. I loved Carlina's character. She is sensible, independent and completely loyal towards her family. I enjoyed the scenes between Carlina and the Commissario Stefano Garini.
Stefano is a good detective and his intense and methodical approach to solving the murder mystery has me appreciating his mystery solving skills, not to mention his growly bear attitude towards Carlina had me giggling and then sighing like a hopeless romantic that I am.

The only thing that I didn't like and which somewhat ruined my complete satisfaction with the story was the abrupt ending which although solved the mystery, gave no closure to Carlina and Stafano's angle.

All in all, Delayed Death is an engaging mystery which will exercise your brain cells thoroughly and also provide you plenty of entertainment. Had the Carlina-Stefano angle been closed, this would have been a 5 star rated book from me but for now I give Delayed Death 4 out of 5 and hope to read more from the author in the future. She is a talented writer and I wish her the very best.

I received the book from the author and the tour organizer and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

Delayed Death costs only $0.99. For a limited time, you can also download it for free at the retailer Kobo or at Smashwords with the  voucher FY29F

#WebsiteReview: Blogmint ~India’s 1st automated platform that connects brands and bloggers!

Blogmint says it is India's 1st automated platform that connects brands and bloggers and I agree.

I cam to know of Blogmint through Facebook when I saw their post about Harsha Bhogle's #BloggerDreamTeam contest.

I registered here and voila! I was introduced to this magical platform named Blogmint.

Once you register, you need to create your profile and then you are free to apply for the various campaigns listed on the website and if you get selected, can write on the given topics and get paid!
Simple, isnt it!

Apart from connecting bloggers to brands, Blogmint also provides very in-depth analytics which help us know our weak points and improve on them. Everything from creating your profile to applying for campaigns based on your interest to writing about them and getting paid, is transparent and done in a most professional way.

I am very happy to have connected with Blogmint and can truthfully say that it is fun and a happy experience which not only gives us, Bloggers, more exposure and a chance to write for our favourite brands but also gives us a simple and effective medium to earn some extra money.

Bloggers follow these simple steps on Blogmint to connect with brands and earn.

1) Open the website and click on register.

2) Follow the step by step process and at the end you get yourself a full profile complete with your bidding prices for writing a single blog post and also creating a video. You can give any amount depending on your popularity and reader engagement strength. You also get detailed analytics of your blog along with a Blogscore which is measured on your social presence, blog's performance and blog's global benchmarking. This Blogscore keeps updating along with the improvement of your blog.

3) Click on "Discover Campaigns", present at the top and checkout the new campaigns and "apply" based on your preference.

 Discover campaigns

How does Blogmint work for Bloggers

4) If selected, you will get a mail and also a notification on Blogmint.
5) Get the full details from the brand.
6) Blog about the theme and submit the draft for approval,
7) When the draft is approved, publish on your blog and share on your social media,
8) Get paid and do the HAPPY DANCE! :)

Go checkout the website and register.

I am happy that I got to know of Blogmint. This platform gave me a chance to write for Harsha Bhogle and finally make a place in his #BloggerDreamTeam! :)

Things that need improving:

1) The major aspect that needs to be worked on is their response to queries and questions. I have seen that we need to shoot multiple mails and then sometimes also contact them through social media to get the team's attention which is sometimes very frustrating.

2) Once a work order is completed, often there is no clear intimation on when the payment will be made which again needs to be improved. Clear timeline should be given on the website regarding the time limit of payments for respective campaigns so bloggers don't have to contact the Blogmint Team with queries.

I hope they work on these pointers and make Blogmint more efficient and better.

Have you tried Blogmint? Do share your experiences with me in the comments section. I love hearing from you.

Book Review: Saved in Sri Lanka by Devika Fernando

#BookReview: Saved in Sri Lanka by Devika Fernando
Title and Author: Saved in Sri Lanka by Devika Fernando
No. of Pages: 292
Publication Date: 1st March 2015
Language: English
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Indie

Some people are destined to meet.

It sure feels that way when Sri Lankan tour guide Sepalika meets Daniel. The mysterious tourist from Ireland steals his way into her heart and makes her question everything her life is built upon. Instant attraction turns to love – but does he feel the same? And what about the secret she’s hiding from him?

Follow the two on their quest for a happy ending amid the beauty and wonders of the tropical island paradise of Sri Lanka.

Book Review:
Saved in Sri Lanka by Devika Fernando is the latest romance offering from this very talented Indie author whose work I have enjoyed in the past.

When I came to know about this book I was first attracted by the cover which made me relive my beach holidays. Then when I read the blurb, I had an inkling that this book would entertain me and I am so happy to say that I was thoroughly entertained while reading Saved in Sri Lanka!

The author has chosen her current country of residence as the place where the story unfolds. We meet Sepalika, a tour guide who also happens to have just the best name in the world after the name of one of my most loved flowers and Daniel, a lone and mysterious tourist. Right from the start, my attention was captured by the book which took me on a tour of Sri Lanka and without leaving my home, I felt like I had visited each and every prominent temple, museum, beauty spots and historical sites in the country!

The author's writing style is simple, vivid and engaging and she is able to  create a mental picture in the minds of the readers all through the book. I felt connected with the characters and events and it felt like everything was happening right around me. Devika has done her research of the Sri Lankan history which shows in the book which can serve as a tourist guide and a map when visiting this beautiful island country.

The characters are relatable, strong and have a presence. I loved Sepalika's quiet strength and perseverance. She never lost hope and kept trying to see the positive even when her world was slowly falling apart around her! Daniels was mysterious, quiet and the intellectual type. I love such people and he instantly made a place in my heart. Reading about him and watching the romantic chemistry unfold between him and Sepalika made me sigh in contentment and fall more in love with these two.

I felt angry with Sepalika's relatives who truly symbolize people that are still living in the dark ages and so self centered that they are unable to see how their actions hurt others especially when they are women. I wanted to slap her fiance but he got what he deserved. You will know what I am talking about when you read the book.

The emotional play and the suspense element is beautifully handled and the author was able to keep me at the edge of my seat throughout. Kudos to her on a book well written!

The only place where I felt a bit dissatisfied or say was left curious was by the end. I wanted to know what happened next with these two. Did they go forward with their plans? Did they encounter any more difficulties? I don't want to give away anything but I am hopeful that maybe these two dear characters will make a re-appearance in some future book by Devika Fernanado. Devika, if you are reading this, you know what I want. LOL

4.5 out of 5 to Saved in Sri Lanka by Devika Fernando. I absolutely loved it and strongly recommend it to everyone. Go read and enjoy this romance and take a trip to Sri Lanka without spending even a dime!

I received a copy of the book by the author and I am very thankful to her. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

Question of the Week:
Where is your favorite place to read?
I love reading while laying on my bed. My bed overlooks the window and so it is a perfect spot, both relaxing and close enough that I can enjoy the view from my window which overlooks the trees with plenty of varied birds chirping as they lounge on those trees.
This is my favourite place.

So much has happened this week. I got so many surprises including a pack of Ariel from Blogadda and Indiblogger! :)

Won 3 competitions, received praise for my writing from fellow and readers bloggers, my blog crossed the 100000 visitor count benchmark, got some awesome books to read via mail like Frozen Summer & Columbina by bloggers turned author Geetha Madhuri and Cynthia Daniel, Shattered Dreams by Shubha Vilas etc. (Will share my TBR list's new additions tomorrow. I could not believe my eyes and I am so happy that I got selected. There were 931 bloggers who participated and only 11 have been selected so it was pretty tough competition but I am glad to have made it.
