Excerpt

My most recent book is The One Who Sees Me. It is about a slave girl, Faru, who is exchanged for a wife for the king. She finds herself in a new home with a new master and life is always going up and down. We’ll join her in chapter 2 when she is leaving her home for the new one: The carriage pulled to a halt, and Lord Cegrol looked up from where he sat. The ride had lasted close to half a glass, Faru estimated, and in that whole time, the lord had not said a single word to her, nor had he looked up from his folded hands. Now he graced Faru with a smile. It was a sad smile, but a smile nonetheless. “What is your name, child?” his musical voice inquired. “Faru, milord.” He seemed to see her for the first time. His eyes took her in, and Faru felt the heat rush to her face. “Well, Faru, welcome to our home away from home.” He paused as he looked out the window. “It is nothing like my Castle Fearann, but it is comfortable.” They descended from the coach onto a cobblestone drive surrounded by blooming rhododendron plants. The whites and pinks softened the harshness of the reds. Beyond the bushes, Faru noticed the house that loomed up above her. The dark bricks were a stark contrast to the stone she was accustomed to. Lord Cegrol led the way up wide, winding stairs to the front door. Torches on either side flickered against the brickwork, which seemed to trap the light instead of sending it out to welcome the master home. As Cegrol opened the door, he was greeted by a portly, elderly lady. “Lord Cegrol, welcome home. You must be exhausted. Let me get your cloak. You just go up to your den. I’ll have Trystan bring you your evening meal.” “Thank you, Kadi,” Lord Cegrol replied. “I would appreciate that. First, though, we need to help Faru get settled.” “Don’t you worry at all about that. I’ll take care of everything.” Lord Cegrol nodded and slowly plodded up another wide staircase. The motherly woman turned to Faru. “And you are?” “My name is Faru, ma’am,” the young slave girl replied, trying not to fidget with her long curly hair. “Lord Cegrol told me your name. What I want to know is, why are you here?” Faru shivered, not just from the draft that flickered the candles in their sconces, but also from the internal cold. “Ma’am, a glass ago, I was preparing my mistress’s evening meal as I have done since I was old enough to help my mother. The queen came and brought me to a parlor where King Cyning and Lord Cegrol and Lady Cwen sat. King Cyning walked off with Lady Cwen, and my mistress showed Lord Cegrol and me to the door where the carriage was waiting. Lord Cegrol brought me here. I do not have anything with me. I am at your disposal.” “You are right about that,” the woman said. “I am Kadi, the housekeeper. Anything that happens in this house, I direct. That includes you.” Kadi paused, sizing up the new servant before she continued. “What besides serving meals are you good at?” This was territory that Faru understood. “I clean rooms. I’ve done some cooking, but more so, just helping the cook prepare food. I’ve taken care of little ones so others can do their work, and I’ve been taught to weave.” “I see,” Kadi stated, pursing her lips. “You won’t have much opportunity to take care of children in this household unless it is servants’ children.” She stood, looking Faru up and down before she continued. “I suppose for tonight, you can just get settled in. Tomorrow is early enough to start. Follow me.”

#ProductReview: Faces Long Wear Eye Pencil ~ Best Eyeliner I have used till date!

I have highlighting my eyes and a kajal and an eyeliner is something I always carry with me. Constantly in search of products that are better than my present collection, I recently came upon Faces Long Wear Eye Pencil and am so impressed by this eyeliner that I just have to share my thoughts with you.

Product Name: Faces Long Wear Eye Pencil

Weight: 1.2 g

Price: 349 INR

Colour: Black

Product Description:

Change your color, transform your look. Get an intense, high shine finish with this amazing eye pencil that is

- Smudge proof

- Water proof
- Intense, rich black colour

Product Review:

The main reasons why I love Faces long Wear Eye Pencil and think this is the best eyeliner that I have used till date are:

1) An intense, rich black colour
The eyeliner is a rich black colour that looks great on my eyes. This is the darkest shade of black that I have seen in a pencil in a long time.

2) Creamy and smooth application.
The eyeliner is creamy in texture and not rough on application. The pigmentation is amazing and it glides easily and gives a smooth and uniform finish. I was able to apply a thick or thin line over my eyelids in one go without having to face uneven strokes.

3) Smudge proof, water proof and long lasting.
This eyeliner is smudge proof and stays put for long hours upto 12 hours and more. What's even better is that once applied, nothing can smudge it. I tried rubbing my eyes, splashed my face with water and even tried it out in the sun with sweat dripping my face and still the eyeliner stayed put!

I sweat easily, have sensitive eyes that tear easily and also have a tendency to rub my eyes unconsciously once in a while but I am very pleased with Faces Long Wear Eye Pencil that tackled all my quirks and still remained in place, giving my eyes that rich effect I always wanted.

4) Suits all skin types.
This eyeliner works beautifully for everyone when applied like a liner on the eyelids.

5) Value for Money.
I have bought and used eye liners ranging from mid range pricing to expensive ones but this one is truly worth even rupee spent and then some. At just 350 INR, this one is a winner and the best eye liner in this range and even in the more expensive price ranges.

Cons:

1) It is so long lasting and smudge proof that you'll need makeup remover to remove it completely. Cleansing milk also works but would require more effort to remove the liner from your eyes.

2) When applied on the water line and used as a kajal, this product sometimes tends to cause watering and irritation in the eyes. So it is best used as an eyeliner applied on the eyelids.

Overall, Faces Long Wear Eye Pencil is the best Eyeliner Pencil in the market at present that is not only amazing but also pocket friendly. I highly recommend this product and am going to try out the other shades available too. This liner gives us everything that we want in an eyeliner and more. Go grab your pencil today and give your eyes a dazzling and rich look!

Book Review

This anthology is a collection of 5 novellas and all stories have a sweet romance and often a ghost in it too!

I loved the cover of the book and the intriguing title that promised me old castles with their own mysteries had me jumping to read it.

All the stories are a quick read and so engaging that once I started on one story I could not leave it until the end. I love meeting new authors and through this book, I got to know of five very talented authors whose other books I would be checking out now.

The only slight glitch I caught was in one of the stories THE GHOST OF DUNLOW MANOR in which Catherine Dunlow became Caroline Dunlow midway in the story. I think this is a name confusion by the author but otherwise the story is just lovely and had me sighing and feeling intrigued right till the end.

All in all, I absolutely enjoyed this book and strongly recommend it to all lovers of mysterious castles with memorable ghosts and heartwarming romances. 4 out of 5 to it. Go grab your copy and enjoy!

I received the book from the tour organizers and the authors and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

Excerpt

Lady Catherine Dunlow paced the balcony of her third-floor bedroom, her skirts swirling behind her as she moved. She was absolutely furious, and she pounded that fury into the stones beneath her feet. She hated strangers. She hated strangers coming into her house. She hated strangers coming into her house and acting like they owned the place. And yet, they kept coming, no matter what she did.
Dunlow Manor had been in her family for generations. It had belonged to her twelfth great-grandfather, and now she was its rightful owner. She had never given permission for unfamiliar people to come and stay within its walls, and yet they did, taking no thought for her feelings on the matter whatsoever.
She didn’t rest at all that night. Instead, she paced and fumed, fumed and paced. She went outside a few times and glared down at their car, but no ideas came to her. This had to stop somehow—it just had to.

About the Authors

Cindy M. Hogan is inspired by the unpredictable teenagers she teaches. More than anything she loves the time she has with her own teenage daughters and wishes she could freeze them at this fun age. If she's not reading or writing, you'll find her snuggled up with the love of her life watching a great movie or planning their next party. Most of all, she loves to laugh.

Jo Noelle grew up in Colorado and Utah but also lived in Idaho and California. She has two adult children and three small kids. She teaches teachers and students about reading and writing, grows freakishly large tomatoes, enjoys cooking, builds furniture, sews beautiful dresses, and goes hiking in the nearby mountains. Oh, and she’s two people, Canda Mortensen and Deanna Henderson, a mother/daughter writing team.

Donna K. Weaver: A wife, mother, grandmother, Harry Potter geek, Navy brat, Army veteran, and karate black belt. Donna is an avid cruiser, having sailed the Pacific five times. She’s lived in South Korea, the Philippines, Germany, and many US states. She and her husband raised six children and currently have nine grandchildren.

Paige Timothy has been writing for as long as she can remember… and probably before that, too, because her memory gets spotty at a certain point. She loves watching romantic comedies, blushes when the characters do something embarrassing, and sighs in all the right places.

Kaye P. Clark was born in New York City, grew up in southern California and raised her family living on remote cattle ranches in Arizona. She now makes her home in Idaho where she works part-time at the county library and teaches art to young children. She’s a mother and grandmother with a very patient husband who puts up with her passion for writing.

ARC Book Review
The House at Homecoming Cove by Ginny Baird had me intrigued right from the start. I loved the cozy sounding title with a catchy cover and when I read the blurb, I just knew I had to read the book.

Luckily, Ginny invited me to read and review her book before release and I jumped at the chance!

Excerpt

Her words came out in a whisper. “Thank you for everything. For coming to my rescue, for…” She was saying goodbye, yet her chin tilted toward his and she took a step closer, her lips barely parted, inviting. She peered up at him and met his gaze with a look that was surprisingly heated, decidedly predatory. There was no mistaking it. Melissa wanted him too. That was all the encouragement Stone needed to take her in his arms and bring his mouth down on hers with a hungry desire that surpassed all expectations. Melissa gasped with delight and sighed into his kiss. Stone’s empty mug slid from her grasp and landed somewhere on the sofa. Stone pressed his eager body to hers and ran his hands up her back, threading his fingers through her hair. She was glorious, beautiful, her gaze sparking with reciprocal passion. Stone groaned and kissed her again, savoring the taste of her, delighting in the sweetness of her body molded to his, as his blood pumped harder and his heart beat like a kettledrum gone out of control. It was more than a kiss; it was like coming home. “Stone,” she said breathlessly. He opened his eyes to find his cheeks nestled between her palms. She looked up at him her face flushed with longing. “I think you’d better go.” “Yeah,” he said, his pulse pounding. “I’d better go.” Thunder boomed and rain slapped the windowpanes, while the fire hissed and moaned. Neither one moved. “Melissa,” Stone whispered, brushing his lips over hers. “You and me… It’s like… I don’t know.” “I know,” she replied, meeting his kiss. “I feel it too.”

ARC Boxset Review: Christmas Pets & Kisses

I read 4 stories from this boxset and loved them all! Sixteen inspiring and heartfelt stories about normal people trying to find and hold onto their happily-ever-after along with some quirky and yet adorable pets, this boxset is a must have! :)

Here are my reviews of  the four stories I have read:

Dog-Gone Christmas by Melinda Curtis

Marnie is a single mom living with her son Alex. Living peacefully, their life is given a new interesting twist with the arrival of a new neighbor, the very handsome lawman, Jonas along with his monstrous looking but very friendly St. Bernard dog, Snowflake.

I absolutely loved Snowflake who it seems can talk to humans! Acting as a problem solver/matchmaker, his antics had me giggling, laughing and wanting to adopt him. Marnie is stressed about the pending arrival of her in-laws and wants to create a good impression. A handsome distraction in the form of Jonas is not something she wants at present. Add an over active, mischievous and adorable kid to the mix and Melinda Curtis had me glued to my seat right till the end.

I love Melinda's writing style and she shines here too. A heart melting story of second chances in love and life and Christmas miracles, the characters here are people that will stay with you long after you have finished reading the novella.

Expertly balancing emotions from sadness to happiness to heartwarming romance, I enjoyed reading this novella and recommend it to all lovers of happily-ever-afters.

Mavy's Christmas Miracle by Sharon Coady

Mavy's Christmas Miracle by Sharon Coady is a feel good Christmas Romance about second chances, forgiveness and a fresh start.

Christmas on Cougar Mountain by Nancy Radke

Christmas on Cougar Mountain by Nancy Radke is the first book by the author that I have read and I am so happy that I discovered her!

This is the story of Zoey who lives alone and teaches children with Dyslexia. A chance finding of a stray dog leads her to meet Kellen and his son, Reece who have just arrived to the town and to whom this stray belongs. This encounter soon leads to a heartwarming love between two people who are both wary and have their own reasons to not want to go the romance way. Will this festive season bring these two lovers together?

Unexpected Gift by Chantel Rhondeau

Unexpected Gift by Chantel Rhondeau is a story that not only warmed my heart but also reminded me of my favourite fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast. Part of Christmas Pets and Kisses anthology, this is the story of Cali who is new to New York and feels lonely. A lost cat leads her to Marcus Ritz, a rich recluse and they, soon, strike a friendship except that Marcus is only ready to talk on phone and never agrees to meet in person. As Christmas comes near, Cali's hope of meeting Marcus face to face also intensifies, if only she can understand the reason why he refuses to come out of his apartment!

This is a collection of stories from some of my favourite authors who write lovely stories and I can't recommend this set enough. I have grabbed my copy. Grab yours too at sale.

Navratri Vrat Recipes: Butter Paneer ~No onion, garlic and very simple to make!

Navratri is here and we are all fasting but this doesn't mean that we can't experiment a little with food and have ourselves recipes that not only look delicious but also are tasty!

Today, I'll share with you a simplified vrat version of Butter Paneer which is really very simple to make and tastes amazing. This can be eaten not only in Navratri but in any fast or even on normal days.

Ingredients:

500 gms fresh paneer (cottage cheese) cut in cubes,

5 blanched tomatoes,

1 tsp kasuri meethi/dried methi,

1 tbsp of white butter,

1 cup of curd (dahi),

1 bay leaf (tej patta),

1/2 tsp of deggi mirch/lal mirch (red chilli powder),

3 green chillies,

fresh coriander or dhania for garnishing,

salt to taste,

1/4 tsp of sugar.

Feed Count: 4 people

Steps to Prepare:

1) Puree the blanched tomatoes.

2) Heat white butter in a round bottom pan and add tej patta, green chilli to it.

3) Add the tomato puree, curd and stir well. Add the red chilli powder and cook till the oil leaves the sides of the tomato paste.

4) Add the remaining white butter, sugar, salt and stir till the butter melts and the gravy gets thick.

5) Add the paneer cubes and cook for 3-4 minutes.

6) Add crushed kasuri methi, garam masala and stir.

7) Switch off the flame and garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with the crispy Lauki Paratha or Sama ke Chawal (Vrat Rice).

Cool Tips:

1) For this dish, it's better to use ripe, red tomatoes.

2) Sugar quantity depends upon your taste and you can variate it accordingly.

3) Add Paneer and then cook only for a few minutes else it will get rubbery and ruin the taste of the dish.

4) Kasuri methi should be added at the last and the flame switched off else their is the danger of the gravy getting bitter.

I hope you like this recipe. Try it out and do share your thoughts with me. I love hearing from you. :)

Book Review:
Mavy's Christmas Miracle by Sharon Coady is a feel good Christmas Romance about second chances, forgiveness and a fresh start.

The cover is all Christmassy with a cute cat and the blurb is interesting that had my interest in the book hooked.

Right from the start, I was engaged in the cozy, homely feel of the story with relatable characters, situations and emotions.

Sharon's writing style is simple and instantly had me engrossed in the story. She brought out the emotional play, the dilemmas and hope of the protagonists and had me enjoying each and every second of the story.

I don't want to give away too much but know this: Mavy's Christmas Miracle is really a miracle story that teaches us to have faith in ourselves, accept the past and move on and have belief in God's greater plan.

A homely, heartfelt and all through lovely story, I give it 4 out of 5 and recommend it all lovers of holiday romances with a feel good quota and a promise of the possibility of miracles in life!

Navratri Vrat Recipes: Easy and crispy Lauki Paratha!

Navratri has started from today and for the next nine days, people all over India will be fasting and welcoming Goddess Durga into their homes and seeking her blessings. With these nine auspicious days ahead, here is a very simple, easy but very tasty recipe of Lauki (Bottle Gourd) Paratha!

Ingredients:

1 Bottle Gourd (lauki)

1 tsp of cumin seeds (jeera)

1 tsp of carom seeds (ajwain)

1 tsp of asafoetida (hing)

1 tsp of mustard seeds (rai or sarson)

2 cups of Kootu atta (Buckwheat flour)

1 cup of Singhare ka atta (Water chestnut flour)

1 tbsp of Desi Ghee

1/2 tsp of red chilli powder

1 tsp of Dhania Powder (Coriander Powder)

Sendha namak (rock salt) to taste

Feed Count: 3 people

Steps to Prepare:

1) Grate lauki (bottle gourd).

2) Heat 1/2 tbsp of Desi Ghee in a pan. Add ajwain, hing, rai and jeera. Let them crackle and add red chilli powder, salt and coriander powder.

3) Add the grated lauki and let it stay on low heat until all the water evaporates.

4) After all the excess water in the lauki is removed. Switch off the flame and sprinkle green coriander, green chilli pieces and you can even add one grated potato. Mix well and your filling is ready!

5) Add the flour to this and prepare a dough by adding the remaining ghee and some water.

6) Form small balls of this dough which already contains the filling and make thin parathas.

7) Heat a flat bottom pan and cook the paratha until it gets a reddish brown look and is cooked.

8) Serve hot with curd, chutney or a sabji and enjoy these crispy, light but very filling Lauki Parathas!

Cool Tips:

1) Kootu and Singhare ka Atta create heat in our bodies. To combat this Desi Ghee is used to prepare any recipes containing these ingredients. Desi Ghee combats the side effects to the heat these flours create in our body.

2) Kootu Atta used alone is difficult to mold in a uniform roti or paratha. Combine it with 2:1 ratio Singhare Atta and the dough is soft, uniform and it's easy to make rotis or parathas.

3) Singhare Ka Atta also makes any dish more crispy.

Hope you like this recipe as much as I liked it. Do try it in your kitchen and share your thoughts with me. I love hearing from you.

ARC Book Review and Giveaway: Falling For Her (K2 Team #3) by Sandra Owens

Falling For Her
by Sandra Owens
Series: K2 Team, #3
Genre: Contemporary Romantic Suspense
Release Date: September 29, 2015

Known to the K2 Special Services team as “Saint,” Jamie Turner lives by his own strict rules to compensate for his past sins and the two-ton boulder taking residence in his heart. He doesn’t drink or smoke. He never swears. And he only dates nice, safe women until he meets Sugar Darling, the fill-in receptionist at K2. She’s as sweet as her name, but this wild woman is definitely trouble, with something to hide. He knows he should avoid her…but can he?

Sugar isn’t hiding something—she’s hiding everything. And K2 seems like the perfect place to lie low, thanks to the big, protective guys who work there. The drop-dead-handsome Saint makes her heart race, yet he keeps his distance. When Sugar’s traumatic past rises up to haunt her again, she desperately turns to Saint for help, and he has to decide what’s more important: playing it safe or risking everything for love.

Falling For Her is the first book by Sandra Owens that I have read and I enjoyed it through and through! The cover and the title were the first things that intrigued me towards the book and the blurb is also interesting.

Taken directly into action by the author, I loved how she executed the story to give us romance, military operations, a strong suspense quota and a story that held me glued to my seat right till the end. Sandra's writing style is engaging and she creates a realistic picture where I could visualize each and every action and feel the thrill of each moment.

Sugar and Saint look to be completely different from each other with Sugar appearing like an empty headed blonde and Saint acting all serious and intense. But wait till their masks fall off and then all that remains is vulnerability and a striking similarity between them. Both are tortured by events past and present, running from their past and stuck in self imposed prison. I loved how they slowly warmed upto each other and how the author brought their characters alive in my mind. She expertly developed their personalities and had me rooting for them soon enough.

I loved meeting the other members of the K2 Special Services Team and enjoyed travelling with them to their dangerous and adrenaline thumping missions. I look forward to meeting them again and am eager to read their stories too. I know I'll be picking up the previous books in this series soon.

Despite being part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone.

There are heartfelt emotions, an engaging and action filled story, an intense and warmth filled romance and plenty of suspense and anticipation in this book. A lovely experience, I give Falling For Her 4.5 out of 5 and recommend it to all lovers of romantic suspense. I enjoyed this book so much that I know I'll be checking out and reading the other books in this series and others by Sandra Owens soon.

I received the book from the author and the tour organizers from NetGalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
