#BookReview: His Lover to Protect (Out of Uniform #3) by Katee Robert

Title and Author: His Lover to Protect by Katee Robert
Publication Date: September 7th 2015 by Entangled: Brazen
Series: Out of Uniform #3
Genre: Adult Romance, Contemporary Romance

Book Review:
His Lover to Protect by Katee Robert is the first book by the author that I have read and while a standalone story, I later realized that it would have been better had I read the previous books in this series first because there is backstory to the heroine that is better understood if you have read the previous books.

Alexis and Luke have both seen tragedy and unhappiness in their lives. In this intense romance, it was interesting to watch as these two broken souls came together to heal each other. Their secrets are revealed, there is angst, drama, passionate romance and a crisp plot with believable characters that had me entertained throughout.

Katee's writing style is expressive and fluid. She was able to bring out the emotional turmoil of the characters and had me misty eyed and then rooting for a happily-ever-after for them.

All in all, His Lover to Protect by Katee Robert is an entertaining romance that had me engaged throughout and now has me eager to checkout the other books in this series. 4 out of 5 to it and recommended to all romance lovers above the age of eighteen.

I received the book from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

#BookReview: Snowstorm Confessions by Rachel Lee

Title and Author: Snowstorm Confessions by Rachel Lee
No. of Pages: 288
Publication Date: October 7th 2014 by Harlequin
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Review:
Snowstorm Confessions by Rachel Lee is the story of Brianna and her ex-husband, Luke who got separated due to misunderstanding but are re-united when Luke gets injured and is sure someone pushed him. Brianna nurses Luke while a stalker is on the lose and bot their lives are in danger. Will Brianna and Luke come together or is it too late for them?

This book was recommended to me by a friend. The plot is relatively simple and is basically the story of the re-union of Brianna and Luke. Most of the book is spent in their talks and confessions with some part devoted to a creepy stalker that had me shivering in fright.

The writing style of the author is simple, fluid and engaging and I could connect with Brianna and Luke and could empathize with their situation.

All in all, this is a quick, cute romance that will provide entertainment on a lazy afternoon. 3.5 out of 5 to it and recommended to all romance lovers.

#BookReview: Lone Wolf Lawman (Appaloosa Pass Ranch #1) by Delores Fossen

Title and Author: Lone Wolf Lawman by Delores Fossen
No. of Pages: 224
Series: Appaloosa Pass Ranch #1
Publication Date: October 20th 2015 by Harlequin
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Review:
Lone Wolf Lawman by Delores Fossen is the first book in Appaloosa Pass Ranch series and the story starts on a high note right from the start.

I got attracted towards it after reading the blurb and knowing that it was a Delores Fossen novel. Having read her work previously I love how she brings entertaining romances with spine tingling suspense to the table.

This book is no different. The story has intense romance, equally intense suspense with an aura of danger. Weston Cade is following a serial killer and when his former lover turns out to be the serial killer's biological daughter and her life is endangered, he is determined to protect her; even more when he learns she is pregnant with his child.

Addie Crockett is shocked when she learns that she is the biological daughter of a serial killer and the only one who, according to her killer father, can identify him, even though she seems to have no memories of him. Weston broke her heart but now he is the only one who can save her.

The plot is expertly conceived and executed. I shivered at times sensing the danger the protagonists were facing from a ruthless and cunning serial killer who is determined to stay unidentified, even if it means killing his own daughter. There is drama, a good mystery that had guessing right till the end.

There are well calculated twists and turns added in the story, many of which came as a surprise to me and had me engrossed in the book right till the end. The romance between Wes and Addie is beautifully developed and the emotional play is lovely. I kept rooting for their safety and a happily-ever-after for them. I also loved Addie's brothers from the family that had adopted her in childhood who are all in law enforcement and devoted to their baby sister. I am eager to read their story too.

The whole mystery doesnt end with this book and I guess we will be seeing more disclosure in the next book in this series and I am eager to know more.

All in all, Lone Wolf Lawman is a crisp romantic suspense that held me captive right till the end and I enjoyed reading it. 4.5 out of 5 to it and recommended to all romantic suspense lovers.

I received the book from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

Will an elevator ride change her life?

In HOLD THE LIFT by Aven Ellis, Sierra Crawford ends up meeting sexy British hockey player Jude Parker after their elevator sticks. Sierra finds herself getting to know Jude—and she likes what she sees. But he wouldn’t be interested in a food-obsessed assistant editor right? Sierra knows she’s quirky—her fondness of Magic 8 Balls is proof of that—so there’s no way he could look her way. Or can he?

In DOWN, THEN UP by Beth Labonte, Lauren Oswald never expected to see her college love, Jamie, again. Not after the way things ended. She certainly doesn’t expect to see him ten years later at a bachelorette party in Vegas, waiting inside a hotel elevator. Slightly older. Different haircut. No wedding ring. Same eyes. As the pair embark on a late night errand, Lauren is flooded with memories of how Jamie became the one that got away—and she realizes that this one night could be their last chance to make things right.

In GOING UP? by Whitney Dineen, Fiona Kitchen had a dream when she moved to New York and it wasn’t taking a job as an elevator operator in a posh, West Side, apartment building. She also didn’t expect to meet a hot handyman, a Columbian drug lord and a notorious mob boss and then fall for one of them in a big way. Life in the Big Apple isn’t quite turning out the way she planned, but who said that was a bad thing?

In Becky Monson’s TAKING A CHANCE, Liza Parker has a fear of heights, crowds and small spaces. So what’s a girl like her doing on a crowded elevator going to the top of the Empire State Building? Freaking out, that’s what she’s doing. Enter Jay Sanders, a tourist who thinks he might be able to help Liza face her fears, but she has to be willing to spend the day with a complete stranger. Maybe taking a chance on Jay is just what Liza needs.

In HAPPY TO BE STUCK WITH YOU by Rich Amooi, Becca has had an office crush on Daniel—Mr. Delicious—for over a year. Getting stuck in an elevator with him was the last thing she expected. If only she can control her claustrophobia. To make matters worse, they’re also stuck with an eighty-year-old man who has a weak bladder, and a penchant for playing cupid. But life is unpredictable. Sometimes, getting stuck is the best thing that can happen.

Computer genius Maisy Potter crosses an ocean to take her dream vacation at an English country estate … where the winsome Mark Prebys works below stairs. With him, Maisy discovers a carefree happiness she’s never known. But will the troubles dogging her from back home, a secret or two whispered behind the parlour curtains, and misunderstandings to beat the band extinguish the magic they think they’ve found in each other? And if not, what happens when Maisy’s enchanting holiday ends? Find out in UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS … AND THE LIFT IN BETWEEN by Geralyn Corcillo.

In THE ONLY WAY IS UP by Lindy Dale, Meet Bailey Burns: hottest thing on the literary circuit. And the most reluctant. After fainting in a lift and regaining consciousness to find herself kissing a stranger, Bailey thinks her week can’t get much worse. But it can. Much worse. Bailey is about to be proposed to by a crazed fan wearing a vampire costume. She’s about to discover she’s in relationship with the guy she kissed. Not only that, but said guy happens to be her new PR manager. Oh dear!

In OUT OF ORDER, by Dee Ernst, Grace has sworn off good-looking men. As soon as she starts dating one of them, she transforms from a mature, confident woman to a needy teen-aged girl. So when she meets Seth, the best-looking man she’s ever seen, she makes the right choice — forget all about him. But a neurotic golden retriever and a broken elevator keep bringing them together. Is the world working against her… or maybe the gods are finally smiling?

#BookReview: Breaking Bailey's Rules (The Westmorelands #30) by Brenda Jackson

Title and Author: Breaking Bailey's Rules by Brenda Jackson
No. of Pages: 139
Series: The Westmorelands #30
Publication Date: November 1st 2015 by Harlequin Desire
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book Review:
Breaking Bailey's Rules by Brenda Jackson is the thirteeth book in The Westmorelands series. I got attracted towards this book because of the blurb and the title that intrigued me.

Initially I didnt know that this was part of a series but after starting the book, I started suspecting that there were characters carried over from previous books and soon learned that this was part of a series. However despite being part of a series, the story can be read as a standalone. But reading the series in order is better so you understand the backstories of the other characters better.

In this book, we get the story of Bailey Westmoreland, the youngest of the Westmoreland clan. The family has been searching for their relatives after learning that their grandfather had siblings who got separated all those years ago. When they learn that the Outlaws of Alaska are their cousins, they are happy to claim them as their kin but the same is not the case with the head of the Outlaw family who doesnt want anything to do with his new relatives. Walker Rafferty, a family friend, is sent to check out the Westmoreland family and it is here that Bailey and he meet and sparks fly. But all is not so cozy for Walker has been burned by a woman in the past and doesn't do relationships and the same is true for Bailey. But can love conquer all?

The plot is simple but executed well. I enjoyed meeting the Westmoreland and the Outlaw families. While I liked both Bailey and Walker, I didn't agree with how they went about developing their relationship. More than half the book goes by with just lust and sex as the focal point of their romance and the feelings are only revealed at the end.

This is one book where I got interested in the secondary characters more than I did in the primary ones. I want to read the stories of Bailey's siblings now and look forward to reading the stories of their Outlaw cousins.

The author's writing style is engaging and narration crisp but the only complaint that I have is with the way she developed the romance. More emphasis should have been given to the emotional angle but after a few scenes I felt like only the physical aspect of the relationship was ruling.

All in all, Breaking Bailey's Rules is a quick romance and had me entertained but I feel it could have been even better. 3.5 out of 5 to it and recommended to all lovers of romance above the age of eighteen.

I received the book from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

#ARCBookReview: Honor Bound (The Montana Hamiltons #6) by B.J. Daniels

ARC Book Review:

Honor Bound by B.J. Daniels is the sixth and the last book in her spellbinding The Montana Hamilton series. I suggest that you read the books in order so as to understand the storyline better. I have been religiously following this series right from the start and feel this is one of BJ's best series.

Set in Montana around the influential Hamilton family where the head of the family, Buckmaster Hamilton is running for President, this book narrates the story of his eldest daughter, Ainsley. Now Ainsley has been an intriguing character right from the start. She has played the role of a mother to her younger sisters after their own mother died and has always played a background role till now. Trusted to give the right advise both by her father and her sisters, she scouts potential shooting locations for movies and advertisements and so travels extensively. During one such assignment, she meets Sawyer who saves her from an accident and sparks fly. But Sawyer is not the stranger she thinks he is. He has a vendetta of his own for being around her and all those "accidents" around Ainsley are not accidents. With a killer on the loose and the family drama at its peak with their mother returning from the dead after twenty two years with no memory and her father's election looming over them, there are too many variables ruling her life at this time.

I was so eager to read Ainsley's story and with this book, the author has yet again delivered a crisp plot with romance and a thrilling suspense. I enjoyed Ainsley and Sawyer part of the story and loved this pair. Sawyer complements her beautifully. Both are strong, independent and loyal people ready to do anything for their loved ones. Their romance is expertly developed and is both passionate and emotionally rich. However, it takes a bit of a backseat because the author focuses more on wrapping up the series. But still this didn't hurt their story which shows BJ's writing prowess.

The main mystery of Sarah Hamilton's disappearance and re-appearance is closed in this book and I enjoyed getting answers to all my questions. While the wrap is good, it still could have been better. I wanted to know more about Cassidy and Jack's life after the life changing experiment done on them in the previous book, Into Dust. I also wanted to read more about the terrorist organization and lastly, more on Sarah before coming back and after getting her full memory back. She remains an enigma until the end and I was left wondering if she will feature again in some other series by B.J Daniels.

I was just so so glad to see the happily-ever-after of Detective Frank Curry and Nettie. These two have been my favourite couple across books and finally seeing them happy, free of the danger that lurked over them, I was left all smiles and wishing to see them solving more mysteries together in the future. Maybe BJ Daniels will feature them again. I have my fingers crossed!

BJ Daniels is a pro at writing romantic suspense and she shines in this series. The writing is fluid, expressive and the twists and turns planned expertly. All theories, howsoever far fetched looking, seem so real and possible- thanks to her talent as a writer. The characters are memorable, suspense breathtaking, drama high voltage and stories unforgettable in this book and series.

All in all, Honor Bound closes all loose ends, wraps up the mysteries in this intense, high drama series and there is a happily-ever-after for each of our much loved character from this series. 4.5 out of 5 to it and recommended to all lovers of romance with a thrilling dose of suspense.

#BookReview: The Colton Bodyguard (The Coltons of Oklahoma #6) by Carla Cassidy

Title and Author: The Colton Bodyguard by Carla Cassidy
No. of Pages: 288
Series: The Coltons of Oklahoma #6
Publication Date: November 3rd 2015 by Harlequin
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Review:
The Colton Bodyguard by Carla Cassidy is the sixth and last book in The Coltons of Oklahoma series but the first that I read in this series. While the story is standalone, there are numerous characters from the past books referred here that had me wishing I had read the previous books first. So I would suggest you read this multi-author series in order.

As is usual with Carla Cassidy's books, this one is also splendidly conceived and executed. Carla had me engaged and glued to my seat right from the start. Although, I was meeting Tyler and Greta for the first time but still there is enough background given to give me an idea of the past events.

The story is fast paced and the characterization admirably done. I could empathize and connect Greta who has been wronged in the past. With Tyler I took a little time to warm upto to him. Initially he rubbed me the wrong way but then when more about his character was revealed I could understand him better. The chemistry between these two is hot and the author brought the cowboy settings out so realistically.

The suspense and drama is beautifully handled and I kept guessing about the solution to the suspense but then was surprised when everything got sorted out. This book brings all the characters from the previous books back in a reunion. I loved meeting them and am eager to checkout the other books in this series so I can read their story too.

All in all, The Colton Bodyguard by Carla Cassidy is a crisp, entertaining and lovely conclusion to an interesting series that held me engrossed right till the end. 4 out of 5 to it and recommended to all romantic suspense lovers.

#BookReview: Billionaire Wolf (The Pack #17) by Karen Whiddon

Title and Author: Billionaire Wolf by Karen Whiddon
Series: The Pack #17
Publication Date: October 8th 2015 by Mills & Boon
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Shifter Romance, Harlequin Romance

Book Review:
Billionaire Wolf by Karen Whiddon is the first book in this series that I have read but later on I came to know that it is the the seventeenth book in The Pack series. However, despite this, this book can be read as a standalone story.

In this book, we meet Ryan Howard, a billionaire playboy who is also a wolf shifter. One night he meets a beautiful woman who introduces herself as Maria Miranda. Instantly attracted towards her, he is also intrigued by her but just like him, she is also one who always walks away for she is also hiding a secret.
What each of their secrets leads them to and how they find their true happy ending in the midst of danger is the story.

I was attracted towards this book because of the cover. I just loved the purple gown of the heroine and the cover gives off this mysterious vibe and had me checking out the blurb which is interesting and surely captured my attention.

This is the first book where I have read about a dragon shifter and I enjoyed reading about their dynamics. Maria is a dragon shifter and as one of the last remaining females of her race, her sole duty is get with child. Although having her pick of the males, so far none has captured her heart but all this changes when she meets Ryan. Soon they are facing dangers and difficulties they hadn't seen coming and amidst all the obstacles, it will take true determination and commitment to get their happily-ever-after.

The plot starts out in a predictable way and I thought I had it all figured out but then the author got me engaged in all the drama and the mystery behind Maria's life so far and the challenges she has in her future. I also enjoyed reading about Ryan and getting a deeper glimpse into his life which showed that despite his seemingly fickle lifestyle there is so much more to him.

I enjoyed the romance development between these two characters and felt connected to all the action and danger they faced in their journey to happiness.

The book is a quick read and had me entertained till the end. I know I will be checking out the other books in this series soon.

All in all, Billionaire Wolf by Karen Whiddon is a quick, entertaining paranormal romance with dragons and wolves and plenty of danger and thrill. 4 out of 5 to it and recommended to all paranormal romance lovers.

I received the book from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

#BookReview: When Secrets Strike by Marta Perry

Title and Author: When Secrets Strike by Marta Perry
No. of Pages: 368
Publication Date: October 27th 2015 by HQN Books
Genre: Amish Fiction, Christian Fiction, Romantic Suspense

Book Review:
When Secrets Strike by Marta Perry takes us back to the small town of Laurel Ridge with its close knit Amish community that we first met in Where Secrets Sleep. Most of the characters from the above book are back in this one too but still  When Secrets Strike is a standalone story.

In this book, someone is setting fire to places and the prime suspect is Aaron, a firefighter. Sarah runs a quilt shop within Blackburn House and has a past with Aaron. When circumstances force them together, Sarah will have to trust her instincts if she wants to protect Aaron whom she believes to be innocent. But in doing so, she will endanger both her heart and her life!

I enjoyed reading this book and loved revisiting Laurel Ridge and meeting some of the characters like Sarah from the previous book, Where Secrets Sleep. The plot is meticulously planned and executed and the author had me engrossed right till the end.

The story is fast paced and the writing simple and fluid. I could connect and empathize with both Sarah and Aaron and rooted for a happily-ever-after for them. The suspense to the identity of the arsonist and his motive in setting fires had me guessing till the very end and then left me surprised when the identity was disclosed.

The romance between Sarah and Aaron is heartfelt, clean, emotional and feels genuine. I enjoyed watching them give each other a second chance at happiness and love.

All in all, When Secrets Strike by Marta Perry is another stellar romantic suspense from the author that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. A story full of heartfelt emotions, clean romance and a good mystery, I give it 4.5 out of 5 and recommend it to all lovers of clean romantic suspense and look forward to reading more form the author in the future.

Celebrating my friendship ~ #YaaronKiBaraat

"True friendship multiplies the good in life and divides its evils..."

This quote is so close to the friendship I have been blessed with in my life.

When I met my best friend for the first time…

A best friend is someone I had never felt the need to have. I was happy with having many friends none of whom were very close to me which suited me just fine but then I met Nishant. I met him during the Professional Development class in college. We were put in the same pair and given an activity to perform. I was very excited and ready to lead the activity but he sat far away from me completely silent with downcast eyes. I still remember my attempt at engaging him.

"Why are you sitting so far away? Come closer. I don't bite!"

I had said with a mischievous smile on my face except it had had no effect on him. He had just stood up and brought his chair closer to me before sitting back down without ever lifting his eyes!
We somehow managed to complete the activity with him only responding in monosyllables and no one, certainly not me, could have guessed that he would one day become my best friend. But he did and my life changed.

And we became friends…

Since that day, we started chatting online slowly moving to meeting up for study sessions and soon became friends. However, it was one particular event that really got me close to him.

Happy moments with my best friend.

A friend in need is a best friend indeed!

College was closing for the winter holidays but with the buses on strike, I had no way to reach home directly. I was afraid to try out the indirect train route alone and sensing my fear and discomfort, he decided to accompany me home. I still remember feeling touched by his concern for my wellbeing and so thankful to him. This event proved a turning point in our friendship and Nishant became my best friend because he got me even when I hadn’t said anything. Not only did he accompany me home, he also took care of me by taking a lead in everything right from booking tickets to finding autos to helping me with my luggage. He truly came to my rescue when I had no one to turn to. None of my other friends had offered to help me like he did.

Another happy memory!

Two foodies unite to conquer the world of food!

Nishant and I share a love for food and we are very adventurous in our tastes. It was this mutual love for tasty delicacies that brought us closer still. It became our unbroken pact to go hunting for new tastes which is still going strong. We can often be seen scouting new restaurants and trying out new dishes. Being foodies, celebration for us is good food.

We are best friends with a love for good food!

Opposites make a good friendship mix!

It is so true that opposites attract and we are a perfect example. I am almost obsessive about a task that I set my mind to do while Nishant can be the worst procrastinator. He delays and delays doing things that is so infuriating that I feel like pulling my hair and shouting at the top of my lungs just to jerk him out of his laziness and get him going!
However, despite this, he is the most caring person I know and whenever I feel like I am at my wits end with him, he goes and does something so sweet that it becomes impossible staying mad at him.

A true friendship entails lots of laughter, support and ofcourse teasing.

We became friends almost nine years ago and our friendship has only grown stronger with time. First we became friends, then best friends and then fell in love with each other and are now happily married.

First we became friends, then best friends and then fell in love with each other and are now happily married.

Our kid arrived just a few months back and has only strengthened my love and devotion towards my best friend and now husband.

Best friends happily married with a sweet kid.

I hope we stay best friends, accomplices in happiness and sadness and in love for all the years to come because a best friend is the person who gets you and for me that is him.

Zee TV has always brought out-of-the-box shows and continuing this tradition of being pleasantly different, is bringing to us a fun-filled chat show, Vivo Smartphone presents Yaaron Ki Baraat co-powered by Amazon.in and Brooke Bond Red Label that will put celebrity friendships to test through a series of fun challenges and tasks. #BookReview: Where Secrets Sleep by Marta Perry

Title and Author: Where Secrets Sleep by Marta Perry
No. of Pages: 384
Publication Date: February 24th 2015 by HQN Books
Genre: Amish Romance, Christian Romance, Contemporary Romance, Romantic Suspense, Mystery

Book Review:
Where Secrets Sleep by Marta Perry takes us to Laurel Ridge which is a small town and has an Amish community. Allison Standish travels to Laurel Ridge where she has inherited a mansion which houses many shops from her grandmother. But right from the start she senses that people dont want her staying there and definitely dont want an outsider like her to inherit the mansion. As threats and dangers escalate, she has only the single father, Nick Whiting who is also one of her tenants on her side.

I have enjoyed reading books by Marta Perry in the past and this one is no exception. She sketches her settings with such ease that I could visualize the small town of Laurel Ridge with its Amish community that is small and close knit. The loved getting to know more about the Amish people, their beliefs and their way of life.

The characters are realistic people who instantly made a place in my heart. Both Nick and Allison are strong characters and butt heads right from the start. It was enjoyable watching them clash and then get closer to each other.

The plot is well conceived and executed. Marta balances the mystery of the mansion and the strange incidents happening there with the romance developing between Alliosn and Nick beautifully. The mansion, Blackburn House is given a whole character of its own and has a whole mysterious, dark and foreboding aura which sometimes gave me the creeps thinking of all the secrets hidden there and then right in the next instant the author surprised me by painting it as a cozy, loving and happy place for the tenants who have been here from a long time.

The mystery had me guessing right till the end and I loved how the author kept herself one step ahead of the reader right till the end.

The story is fast paced with genuine emotional play, heartfelt romance, a crisp plot and a mystery that is expertly developed and handled.

All in all, Where Secrets Sleep by Marta Perry is an engaging book that I loved reading and recommend it to all lovers of suspense, mystery and heartfelt clean romance. 4 out of 5 to it and I look forward to reading more from the author in the future.

#BookReview: Since You've Been Gone by Anouska Knight

Title and Author: Since You've Been Gone by Anouska Knight
No. of Pages: 320
Publication Date: July 29th 2014 by Harlequin HQN
Genre: Chick Lit, Contemporary Romance

Book Review:
Since You've Been Gone by Anouska Knight is the first book by the author I have read. I loved the cover, blurb and title and it was because of this package that I got interested in the book in the first place.

Seeming like a story I would like, I started the book with much enthusiasm but soon started getting bored. The start to the story is slow and while I empathized with Holly who has lost her husband and still pines for him, I so wanted her to move forward.

Ciaran is a believable character and more likable but Holly's critical attitude towards him didnt sit well with me.

The plot is promising and could have been made better but for now, I kept losing interest in the story. Some parts are really engaging but overall this could have been a much better book.

Anouska's writing style is engaging and fluid but she wasn't able to create magic in this story.

All in all, Since You've Been Gone by Anouska Knight is good in places but overall could have been way better. 3 out of 5 to it.

I received the book from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

#ARCBookReview: My Fair Princess (The Improper Princesses #1) by Vanessa Kelly

ARC Book Review:

My Fair Princess by Vanessa Kelly is the first book in her new series, The Improper Princesses. I got attracted towards it because of the blurb which promised lots of scandal, a spunky heroine and a Darcy like hero.

This is the story of Gillian who is the illegitimate daughter of a prince. Raised in Italy, far away from England, she is adept in wielding a gun but is completely ignorant of the rules of society. When she is ordered to England to find a suitable husband, Charles Valentine Penley, the excessively proper, distractingly handsome Duke of Leverton, is given the task of mentoring her to become a lady and leave her tomboy manners behind. But what Charles doesn't count on is his unwanted attraction towards this improper princess!

I enjoyed meeting Gillian who is bold, feisty and a heroine unlike the conventional heroines we meet in historical romance stories. Charles is somewhat like Mr. Darcy, remote, strict and exceedingly proper. He can make and break a person's image. The attraction between Gillian and Charles is developed in a most delicious manner by the author and I enjoyed every second spent reading the book.

The story is fast paced and full of engrossing events that held me captive throughout. I enjoyed meeting Gillian's family especially her half brother and am eager to read his story which promises to be a scandalous one!

The narration is fluid and the world building spot on. I could visualize Gillian's past and present homes in vivid detail quite easily.

All in all, My Fair Princess by Vanessa Kelly is a lovely and entertaining historical romance that is suited for a lazy afternoon. 4 out of 5 to it and recommended to all historical romance lovers.

I received an ARC from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

#ARCBookReview and #Giveaway: Somewhere to Begin (Poison & Wine series #1) by Mika Jolie

Can two souls with fractured parts be the best cure for each other’s wounds? Find out the first book in Mika Jolie’s latest #contemporaryromance series, Poison and Wine, with SOMEWHERE TO BEGIN.

Synopsis:
There are wounds that never show on the body.
For twenty-nine years, Colbie Bennington does as expected with an eternal smile stained on her lips. The biggest chances she’s ever taken can be counted on one hand, three fingers to be exact—her battered red chucks, painting her toenails a vibrant blue, and her wedding dress. Always the dutiful daughter and a Stepford fiancĂ©e, she has never acted on impulse, never been in love.
She’s never lived.
On her wedding day, Colbie ends a toxic relationship, drops the fake smile, and says, “I can’t do this anymore.”
Navy SEAL Zander Serrano returns home broken and burdened with a volcano of remorse. Too trapped in a mental war to be at peace and too damaged to be at war, he shuts the world out. The last thing he expects is to feel, especially for a runaway bride with her own baggage.
Two empty hearts marred in different spots find themselves drawn to one another. Each with their own scars.  Some, the world can see. Others, unseen to the naked eye.
They say two broken people should not be together. But for Colbie and Zander, their attraction is undeniable, unexpected.
Can two souls with fractured parts be the best cure for each other’s wounds?
Starting over is never easy, but sometimes in life, everyone needs somewhere to begin.

ARC Book Review:

Somewhere to Begin by Mika Jolie is the first book in Poison & Wine series and also the first by the author that I have read. A heartfelt story of two people facing their own demons and trying to live through their darkness, this book held my attention throughout.

I instantly fell in love with the protagonists as well as the varied bunch of secondary characters. Colbie was in an abusive relationship but she is determined to start anew. Zander lost his parts of his soul and body in the battlefield and is now just a shell of the confident, happy man that he used to be. Both are trying to survive their harsh past and this is their story.

Mika's writing style is expressive, fluid and she had me engrossed and invested in her narration. I enjoyed how she portrayed people and events in the book, making them all seem so real. I felt like I was watching them live and felt a connection to their lives.

The plot is well conceived and executed and forced me to finish this book in one sitting.

The romance as well as the traumatic past and hard present is brought out beautifully and developed skillfully by the author. She manages to entertain as well as forces us to think through her writing.

After reading and loving this book, I am eager to read the subsequent books in this series as well as the other books by Mika Jolie and recommend this author to you all.

All in all, Somewhere to Begin by Mika Jolie is an entertaining book that will keep you hooked and then leave you wanting more. 4.5 out of 5 to it and recommended to all adult lovers of romance.

I received an ARC from the author and the tour organizers and I am very thankful to them. The above is my honest and unbiased review which is in no way influenced.
