#CelebratingSuper with Vodafone to make Delhi NCR smarter, cleaner and better!

With the rapidly declining liveable conditions, it has become imperative that we take steps to preserve our environment and make our cities more habitable. Vodafone, one of the largest telecom companies in India and which due to its smooth and great connectivity is the choice of 1.2 crore customers in Delhi and NCR, is behind many laudable initiatives in Delhi NCR aimed towards making this region smarter and better.

Did you know 1.2 crore people in Delhi use Vodafone which is almost half the population of Delhi! Vodafone receives 1 customer appreciation every 30 seconds.

Now, with the term “Smart City” making the rounds on social media, TV and news papers, I didn’t quite understand what we meant when we said that so and so city is a smart city. So the question arises : What is a Smart City?

As per Government website on the Smart Cities Mission, “there is no universally accepted definition of a smart city. It means different things to different people. The conceptualisation of Smart City, therefore, varies from city to city and country to country, depending on the level of development, willingness to change and reform, resources and aspirations of the city residents…”

So in short, a Smart City is a city that has all the available arrangements for a better and healthier residence of its residents.

Delhi NCR is the major hub for employment opportunities and businesses in the North but with this rapid development it has also seen a steep decline in its living conditions. Noise pollution, ground pollution, water pollution and air pollution make this area a permanent part of the list of most polluted cities in the country.

Last year, Delhi came into the red zone when it came to light that its air was highly polluted.

Vodafone took the initiative of creating the first Air-purifying bus shelter in the city so people could breathe pollution free air while waiting for a bus.

To encourage people to use public transport and thus, help minimise air pollution and digitise the Delhi NCR region, Vodafone also created the first Wi-Fi bus shelter in Gurgaon. Everyone, irrespective of whether they are Vodafone customers or not, can use the Free Wi-Fi for twenty minutes.

Over 120 Free Wi-Fi Zones have been created by Vodafone in Delhi-NCR in areas like the Khan market, DLF Mall of India, Fortis Hospital etc. which are helping digitise this area and helping connect people with each other digitally.

Vodafone supports startups by providing them free Vodafone products.

Taking a step further in the betterment of this region, the Telecom giant also supports startups in their initial stages by providing them free Vodafone products upto Rs. 2,00,000 that are helpful in their business. Vodafone has provided support to Oyo and Zomato.

This year, Vodafone encouraged people to to celebrate a Green Diwali by providing Super Crackers which contained eco-friendly plant seeds at their 52 Vodafone stores. People were encouraged to plant these seeds and let the plants bloom. This was a very noteworthy initiative that came after the Supreme Court banned firing crackers in the city to help keep the pollution levels down in the city.

The telecom giant is truly #CelebratingSuper and has shown dedication and determination towards helping make Delhi-NCR a super region that is better, cleaner and more habitable. I hope to see many more initiatives from this consumer favourite in the future too.
