How to make Healthy Tomato and Beetroot Soup for babies Recipe -Njkinny's Blog

This recipe is very rich in Vitamin E, Beta-Carotene, Iron, Fiber and suited to everyone even babies over one year of age. Nutritious, tasty and a rich red colour, it gives the body nutrition and is one of my favourite soup/curry. My baby who is now three years old has been in love with this soup ever since I first introduced it in his diet and enjoys it frequently.

Tomato and Beetroot Soup also helps lose weight due to its fiber content and low to almost no oil used in making it. Also a vrat recipe that can be enjoyed when fasting, this one is a Diabetes friendly recipe and can be enjoyed by babies and adults alike.

Ingredients Required:

4 finely chopped tomatoes (Tamatar),
2 finely chopped Beetroot (Chukandar),
Salt to taste,
1 tsp Crushed Black Pepper (Kali Mirch),
1 tsp Cumin (Jeera),
Chopped Fresh Green Coriander (Hara Dhaniya) for garnishing,
1 tsp Desi Ghee,
1 pinch asafoetida (Hing),
4 cups water

Steps to prepare Tomato and Beetroot Soup/Curry (Tamatar aur Chukandar ka Shorba/Sabji) for babies:

a) Take a Pressure Cooker and add desi ghee.

b) Add Hing, jeera (cumin) and wait until it crackles.

c) Add the chopped tomatoes and beetroots.
Stir for a minute.

d) Add water, crushed black pepper and salt.

e) Close the lid and cook till two whistles on high flame.

f) Open the pressure cooker and gently crush the beetroot and tomatoes.

g) Cook for a minute without the lid.

h) Grind the soup in a grinder and then run it through a sieve so any chunks get removed before serving it to your baby. Adults can enjoy it without grinding like I do!

i) Pour the soup/curry in a bowl and garnish it with chopped green coriander.

j) Serve hot with either chappati, paratha, rice, bread or enjoy it solo.

    1. Sure, anyone can eat it. My family adores this soup and the only difference that I make when preparing it for my baby is to grind it and run it through a sieve. :)

The beetroot would give this soup a nice red color. I should try making this soup. We no longer have babies in the house but I am sure the adults would love it. :) Saved the recipe and added this to my menu plan for next week.

  6. This sounds like a great recipe for a baby meal with plenty of flavour. I never even though to make something like that myself I was so tired as my first ones were so close in age.
