8 Fasting Recipes that are yummy and healthy

Fasting has been a custom in many religions but now the benefits of fasting have been backed by science as well. Intermittent fasting helps reduce weight and leads to better overall health.

Eating healthy while we fast is a sure way to maximize the benefits to our health. Here are a few of my favourite fasting recipes that are yummy, very healthy and help loose weight so easily.

1) Almond, Lotus Seeds and Dry Fruits Kheer (Badam, Makhana aur Sookhe Meve ki Kheer)

This kheer is suited for everyone even babies over one year of age. It is rich in Vitamin E, high in fiber, Calcium as well as numerous other healthy vitamins that make this kheer a complete meal, providing the body much needed strength, energy and nutrition.

One of my favourites, my two year old son also loves this kheer.


Ingredients required:



1/2 cup finely crushed almonds (badam)

1/2 cup dry fruits like Cashews, Pista, Kishmish (Dried grape), Chhuhara (Dates).
1/2 cup of Makhana (Fox Nuts),
1 tbsp grated dried coconut,
1 tbsp grated Gur (Jaggery),
1 tbsp Desi Ghee,
500 ml milk

PS: If you are making this recipe for babies then instead of coarsely crushing, grind the makhana, almonds and other dry fruits to a powder.



Steps to prepare Almond and Dry Fruit Kheer (Badam aur Sookhe Meve ki Kheer)


a) Heat Ghee in a vessel and fry makhana. Crush the makhana coarsely after frying. 

b) Heat milk in a vessel and add crushed makhana and crushed almonds. Stir.

b) Add the other dry fruits too and stir gently till the milk boils. Keep the flame at medium.

c) Once the milk boils, lower the flame and stir the kheer for another 5 minutes.

d) Add grated dried coconut and stir for one minute.

e) Remove from flame and add the grated jaggery (gur). Stir till it dissolves.

f) Serve hot or cold, it tastes yummy either way.

Using minimal oil, no spices and high in fiber and nutrients, this recipe is ideal not only for adults but also babies above one year old.



3) Badam ki Kheer (Almond Kheer)

This kheer is another favourite in my family. It is not only nutritious but also lip smacking good. It is also a homemade cereal for babies and a loved dessert for everyone else. 

Ingredients required:


14 almonds soaked overnight and then ground in a paste.

1/2 cup dry fruits like Cashews, Pista, Kishmish (Dried grape) ground in a powder. {optional}
1 tbsp grated Gur (Jaggery),
500 ml full cream milk


Steps to prepare Almond Kheer (Badam ki Kheer)


a) Heat milk in a pan and add the ground almond paste to it.
b) Boil on medium flame for one minute and then simmer for five minutes till the milk thickens.
c) Add the dry fruits powder and stir for a minute on low flame.
d) Remove from flame and add the grated jaggery (gur). Stir till it dissolves.
e) Serve hot or cold, it tastes yummy either way.


4) Crispy Lauki (Bottle Gourd) Paratha

This paratha or flat bread is made using lauki (bottle gourd), Kuttu Atta (Buckwheat flour) and Singhara Atta (Water Chestnut flour). Very easy to make, this recipe is tasty, crispy and a complete meal. Pair it with a bowl of curd and enjoy!

An enticing red colour, it tastes like heaven and is super easy to make. A definite favourite in my family, my kid absolutely adores this soup.
