How to make easy and healthy lauki ki vrat wali sabji

Navratri is one of the major Hindu festivals celebrated across India and abroad. People fast for nine days and worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga. Fasting is not only a custom but it has also been proven scientifically to improve overall health.

A great way to detox the body and also lose weight, here is a very simple and yet so healthy lauki ki sabji that uses minimum oil and no spices. Ideal for even babies above one year old, this recipe is filling, nutritious and also helps lose weight!

Easy and Healthy Lauki (Bottle Gourd) ki Vrat Wali Sabji Recipe:


Ingredients required:


1 Lauki (Bottle Gourd) chopped in small pieces,
2 medium sized tomatoes (tamatar) chopped in small pieces (optional),
1 tsp cumin (jeera),
1/2 tsp crushed black pepper (kali mirch),
Pink Rock Salt (Sendha Namak) to taste.
1 tsp Desi Ghee.
1/4 cup chopped coriander (hara dhaniya)
5 cups water depending on the consistency you want.


Steps to Prepare Easy and Healthy Lauki (Bottle Gourd) ki Vrat Wali Sabji:


1) Heat desi ghee in a cooker.

2) Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.

3) Add chopped lauki and tomatoes and stir.

4) Add black pepper and salt.

5) Stir for a minute on low flame.

6) Add water and close the lid of the cooker.

7) Wait for 4 whistles on high flame before removing the cooker from the stove.

8) Serve the sabji hot garnished with chopped coriander.

PS: When serving to babies, crush the lauki further and then serve or you can remove the lauki pieces to give them only the broth that contains all the nutrients.

9) Eat this soupy style sabji solo or pair it with crispy lauki ka paratha, kuttu singhare ke pakode, sabudane ki khichdi.
