Reckless Dare by M V Kasi, P G Van Book Review

Reckless Dare by M V Kasi, P G Van is the first book in the “Simha University” series. I have been a huge fan of this author duo’s “Singham Bloodlines series” and absolutely adore books likeBound by RevengeandBound by Hatredfrom it. So, when I heard that they were coming together again for a new series that was somewhat like the Singham series, I jumped in joy.

However, after reading Reckless Dare I am disappointed. This book lacks the spark of previous books. The protagonists Abhi and Ava lack the character depth of the loveable characters from books likeWicked Deception“.

While I love bad boy college romances where the hero is a bully with a heart of gold, I just could not condone some of Abhi’s actions and his motivation behind tormenting Ava was so ridiculous as to be laughable. Who orders someone to leave college just because their fathers had a falling out? I mean get real. If everyone started ordering their enemies or people they don’t like, what would the world come to?

Then Abhi’s abandonment scene and his cruel targeting of Ava in her studies just didn’t sit right with me. With girls already so unsafe and targeted in daily life, such scenarios give the sense that it is okay to do this because ultimately the girl comes to like such bullies.

Ava showed a backbone but then went limp. She is nowhere near my favourite heroines Sabitha fromBound by Hatred“, and Sia fromSoulless“.

Even the explanation of everything when it came was so immature that it was just not upto the mark.

Overall, it felt like the authors added everything that they could think should be in a college romance like jealous and bitchy roommate, beach parties, sexual harassment, masquerade ball, holi party, two boys pursuing one girl, bad boy bikers, sports Gods etc. but could not utilise anything to give a story with depth. So, this book had too many angles but nothing was developed.

Conclusion:

All in all, I have read way better from M V Kasi and P G Van. This book can be read once but it is nothing worth recommending. So, 2 out of 5 stars to it from me because I loved the world building and Simha University was a bit believable if not as immersive as the world of the “Singham Bloodlines series”.
