#ARCBookReview: It’s Hard Out Here for a Duke (Keeping Up with the Cavendishes #4) by Maya Rodale

ARC Book Review:

It’s Hard Out Here for a Duke by Maya Rodale is the fourth book in Keeping Up with the Cavendishes series and follows James Cavendish’s trials and tribulations on his path to a happily-ever-after.

Having read all the previous books in this stellar series, I had been eagerly awaiting James’ story. A dutiful brother who travels, despite his true desire to stay put, across oceans from America to England in hopes of securing his beloved sisters’ future, James Cavendish became a loved character right from the first book in this series, Lady Bridget’s Diary. I loved his humble, kind, loving persona and all his non-Dukish ways made him seem more real and loveable.

This book takes place at the same time as the rest of the books in this series and starts even before the first book. So we get a glimpse into the Cavendishes’ lives before their arrival to Durham which is so cool.

Meredith Green, our heroine who is also the stranger James meets in a tavern and falls in love with is the Duchess of Durham’s companion which totally makes his and her love story seem impossible. A strong character who is loyal and willing to sacrifice her happiness with James Cavendish for her sense of duty and loyalty towards the Duchess, Meredith is a memorable character who portrays a woman’s strength and fight for independence despite all circumstances.

I absolutely loved and enjoyed the chemistry and emotional play between the protagonists and read this book in a single sitting. A book that kept me glued to my seat and so engrossed, I got no work done that day, I heartily enjoyed reading It’s Hard Out Here for a Duke by Maya Rodale and rejoiced when my favourite Cavendish siblings got their HEA’s.

A terrific series that has kept me entertained this whole year and each time left me with a satisfied smile and a light heart, I am sad to see this series end and hope we get to meet the Cavendish clan again soon.

All in all, It’s Hard Out Here for a Duke by Maya Rodale is a book that can be read again and again. An entertainer, this is a story of the victory true love despite all odds and the unconditional love based brother-sisters bond. Full of funny and light moments expertly balanced with somber, series scenes, Maya Rodale proves her writing prowess yet again through this book.

I loved loved loved reading It’s Hard Out Here for a Duke and give it 4.5 stars out of 5. I am deducting a half star in my rating just because of the cover which I feel just does not suit James Cavendish and doesn’t justify the depth and class of this superb story.

I received an ARC from the publishers via Edelweiss and I am very thankful to them. The above is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
