Saved in Sri Lanka by Devika Fernando Book Summary:

Some people are destined to meet…”

Saved in Sri Lanka by Devika Fernando

A Sri Lankan tour guide finds love with a mysterious tourist from Ireland. But will they be able to move towards their happy life when secrets, doubts, and society stand in their way?

Saved in Sri Lanka by Devika Fernando Book Review:

Things I liked:

Saved in Sri Lanka by Devika Fernando is the latest romance offering from this very talented Indie author whose work I have enjoyed in the past.

So, when I came to know about this book I was first attracted by the cover which made me relive my beach holidays. Then when I read the blurb, I had an inkling that this book would entertain me and I am so happy to say that I was thoroughly entertained while reading Saved in Sri Lanka!

The author has chosen her current country of residence as the place where the story unfolds. We meet Sepalika, a tour guide who also happens to have just the best name in the world after the name of one of my most loved flowers and Daniel, a lone and mysterious tourist. Right from the start, my attention was captured by the book which took me on a tour of Sri Lanka and without leaving my home, I felt like I had visited each and every prominent temple, museum, beauty spots and historical sites in the country!

Writing style and Narration:

The author’s writing style is simple, vivid and engaging and she is able to  create a mental picture in the minds of the readers all through the book. I felt connected with the characters and events and it felt like everything was happening right around me. Devika has done her research of the Sri Lankan history which shows in the book which can serve as a tourist guide and a map when visiting this beautiful island country.

The emotional play and the suspense element is beautifully handled and the author was able to keep me at the edge of my seat throughout. Kudos to her on a book well written!

Characterisation:

The characters are relatable, strong and have a presence.

I loved Sepalika’s quiet strength and perseverance. She never lost hope and kept trying to see the positive even when her world was slowly falling apart around her!

Daniels was mysterious, quiet and the intellectual type. I love such people and he instantly made a place in my heart. So, reading about him and watching the romantic chemistry unfold between him and Sepalika made me sigh in contentment and fall more in love with these two.

I felt angry with Sepalika’s relatives who truly symbolise people that are still living in the dark ages and so self-centred that they are unable to see how their actions hurt others especially when they are women. I wanted to slap her fiance but he got what he deserved. You will know what I am talking about when you read the book.

Things that could be better:

The only place where I felt a bit dissatisfied or say was left curious was by the end. I wanted to know what happened next with these two. Did they go forward with their plans? Did they encounter any more difficulties? I don’t want to give away anything but I am hopeful that maybe these two dear characters will make a re-appearance in some future book by Devika Fernanado. Devika, if you are reading this, you know what I want. LOL

Conclusion:

All in all, a fun, engrossing, heartfelt and enjoyable romance. So, 4.5 out of 5  stars to Saved in Sri Lanka by Devika Fernando. I absolutely loved it and Njkinny recommends it to everyone. Go read and enjoy this romance and take a trip to Sri Lanka without spending even a dime!
