My Review:
Lindsey is a normal teenager with her usual problems like studies, boys, dressing issues etc. But something is just not normal with her. She has dreams. Vivid and gruesome dreams with a haunting laughter and bright, burning eyes that seem to taunt her.

Living with her mother, Lindsey is happy with her life. Stuck with two boyfriends (one is an ex ofcourse), she thinks her life can get no stranger. But when secrets about her family are revealed and a danger to her life is faced, Lindsey will have to make the most difficult decision of her life.

The first thing I noticed about this book was the fact that though this was supposed to be a diary, its not written like one. Lindsey is cute initially but then starts to grate on one’s nerves. I was totally frustrated by her handling of her relationships with Luke and Phillip. Then the excessively rambled dialogues are another let down.

The plot idea was very appealing and promised a thrilling book but the handling and execution of the story was not up to the mark. The villain in the book makes an appearance at the very end and gets defeated pathetically. There was so much written about his powers and his persona and about his tortures that I felt that when the time came to fight, the scenes would be fully charged and totally captivating. Then the next thing was Lindsey’s mother. She suddenly flees with Lindsey when they know that the main villain is coming but then after a small training where Lindsey makes a few attempts at flying, Lindsey’s mother makes her go to school the next day! What the hell? Cant he harm Lindsey in school? What was the purpose of suddenly running from their home if she was to go to school again like nothing had happened?
Then there is the final fight. Where was Lindsey’s mother? Why doesn’t she make an appearance and fight alongside her daughter? The treatment with Luke and Phillip is also the same. Lindsey just spends her time, two timing them and then trying to rationalize her actions.

Overall I was totally confused and not entertained by this book. Larissa has the flair for writing and I liked some parts in the book but still the overall execution of the story, the characterization and the closure are not satisfactory and doesn’t entertain the reader. This could have been a full 5 star rated story if the revelation that Lindsey is an angel and then the imminent danger to her had led to a full fledged training schedule with more explanation into her mother’s past, more explanation into Jia’s psychic history and her role in Lindsey’s story and finally a better handling of Luke, Phillip and Lindsey triangle.

I give Angel Diaries(Volume 1) a 2.5 out of 5. This is a book that had much potential had it been handled properly.

I received the book from the author and I am very thankful to her. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
