The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang Book Review

The Kiss Quotient is a romance unlike any I have ever read. My life stopped while I read this lovely love story. This book had me enchanted throughout and there is nothing that I didn’t like about this soulful romance.

I adored Stella and Michael. Michael’s secrets and Stella’s insecurities are the major obstacles in the path to their happily-ever-after. Fluid and engrossing narration and well-developed characters make this book stand out.

She didn’t know how to be semi-interested in something. She was either indifferent . . . or obsessed.”

I adored this book that comes dangerously close to falling into the erotic category but still beautifully balances all the physical intimacy scenes with expertly woven emotions that will resound with every reader. Although I have read several books featuring Autistic characters, yet I learned so many new things about people experiencing this condition through this book.

She had a disorder, but it didn’t define her. She was Stella. She was a unique person.”

Michael and Stella had me falling in love with them. They have become one of my favourite book couples. I cried, laughed and felt every emotion that they experienced as I followed them in the story.

Everything about him pleased her. Not just his looks, but his patience and his kindness. He was good. He was an obsession waiting to happen.”

I don’t want just a night or a week or a month with you. I want you all the time. I like you better than calculus, and math is the only thing that unites the universe.”

  • I have Autism myself and I’ve been happy to see the rise in Autistic representation in romance (YA and adult) even though it’s not a genre I typically read. We’re often depicted as characters who can’t fall in love, or shouldn’t. I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂 (As a tiny nitpick, your word choice for Stella being “afflicted” with Autism makes it sound like she is dying from her neurotype or it is somehow causing her pain. I wasn’t offended or anything, but it briefly confused me.) -Nathaniel from Operation Awesome

    • Thanks Nathaniel. I chose the word “afflicted” deliberately because this is how Stella views her life. The helplessness she feels. This book gives such a heartfelt look inside the mindset of people with Autism. Several of my acquaintances are on the spectrum and I am all for supporting them. They are really brave and so very strong.
