A Daring Pursuit by Kate Bateman Book Review:

I loved reading “A Reckless Match” and had been intrigued by Carys ever since. So when I got a chance to read an advance copy of A Daring Pursuit, I jumped to read it.

Carys is spunky, daring, and a strong heroine. But despite her outward confident persona, inside she is frightened, and living in constant fear of her most scandalous secret coming out. My heart went out to her and I wanted a happy ending for her.

She could see no end in sight.

Then Tristan was a hero I wanted to meet again and he is so swoon worthy. However, while I loved both the characters, I still missed a gradual development of their love. For now, they rapidly jump to love and the major part of the book is spent in more of sexual exploration. But this part is done splendidly. If you like smutty romances with sexual banter then Kate Bateman delivers it expertly here.

The sexual banter is sizzling!

Darkness won’t work, you know. You’d still recognize the scent of me. Just as I know the scent of you with my eyes closed.” Her heart fluttered as she inhaled his smoky cedar and spice.

You’ll know my touch too. And my taste,” he murmured. God, he was good. He wasn’t even touching her and her body was already aflame. “

I’ll know every inch of your body. Every line, every curve.” His eyes lingered on the swell of her breasts beneath her jacket; they rose and fell faster as her breathing quickened.

Darkness won’t make a blind bit of difference.”

I also missed the siblings and would have loved to see them reappear in this book. But the fun, angst, and banter of the first book is missing in this one.

Even the danger posed by the reveal of the secret is resolved too quickly and lightly almost at the end.

Also while I understood Carys’ wariness towards marriage but Tristan’s reason to deem marriage to Carys impossible was very unrealistic.

So, in my opinion, the first half is crisp, but the second half is slow, and the ending haphazard.

Conclusion:

Overall, A Daring Pursuit by Kate Bateman is an engaging one time read romance with scorching sexual banter. While I enjoyed reading it, I feel it had untapped potential. However, for now it is an entertaining and sizzling read for a lazy afternoon. So, 3.5 out of 5 stars to it and Njkinny Recommends it to all historical romance lovers above the age of eighteen.

Go grab this regency romance to read now, and I look forward to read the next books in this very interesting series.
