But can she pull this forgery?

Life’s path, she’d learned, never remained true. From a distance, it appeared set and untroubled, but as one neared, the path twisted and curved. One either bent to its demands or snapped.

The Duke of Diamonds by Emily Windsor Book Review:

I came across The Duke of Diamonds by Emily Windsor by accident and loved the cover at first glance. Then was intrigued by the title and blurb. Being a lover of strong, independent heroines, and brooding heroes with hidden depths, this book looked promising. So, I decided to read it and am so glad I did too!

Emily Windsor is my new favourite author. Her writing is real, engaging, and kept me glued to the book until the end.

Characterisation:

Then the characters absolutely won me over. They are complex people with hidden depths.

Casper Brook, the Duke of Rothwell is a man who has seen hardship and born the aftermath of his father’s debauched and frivolous lifestyle. So now he is a man who values honesty, hard work, and responsibility above frivolity of his station.

Trust was a delicate bridge between two people that once broken was not easily mended. Fragility underpinned it, doubt layered it, only time strengthened it. “

Evelyn went from being the daughter of a famed painter and a Gentleman to a penniless, in-debt theatre painter living in extreme poverty. With a threatening moneylender who wants to throw both her and her sister towards prostitution, and a very sick sister, she has no option but to try and sell a forged painting to the Duke of Diamonds. And with this money she dreams of getting her freedom and a comfortable life for her remaining family.

The memories of those desperate months, when her sister had been so ill and food had been so scarce, would begin to fade – not to be forgotten but like stones in a river they would sink to the bottom, yielding a foundation of strength as time flowed over them.

I adored the banter, sensuous chemistry, emotional play between Casper and Evelyn. Each scene featuring these two had me smiling, sighing, and overall enjoying myself.

Supporting Characters:

Then there are the supporting characters like Evelyn’s sweet sister, Artemisia; her loyal friends, Matilda and Flora; the dangerous and most feared club owner called “Prince”; Casper’s younger brother, Lord Ernest; his Uncle and his Aunt added even more spice to the story and left me wanting to read their own stories soon. So, I know what I will read next – Matilda’s storyA Governess Should Never… Tempt a Prizefighter” , and Lord Ernest’s story The Rake of Hearts“.

Conclusion:

With a well planned plot, engrossing storytelling, memorable quotes, and characters that quickly become a reader’s favourite people, this splendid historical romance is EVERYTHING!

This heartwarming love story is full of witty banter, soul searing emotions, and sizzling chemistry.

So, 5 out of 5 super shiny stars to it and Njkinny recommends it to all regency romance lovers. I have already reread this exciting and sensuous romance with heart twice and know there will be many more rereads in the future. A worthy book gift, this book is must read!
