Book Summary of The Venus World by Hywel Richard Pinto:

A cataclysmic biological attack leaves the world a changed place with the male population suffering the after-effects of this attack the most. The story then jumps to the year 2100 where the new world is now ruled by six Queens and the men relegated to the status of slaves, reproduction mules, and as guinea pigs for scientific experiments. The virus leaves the men infected with many devastating affects to their body and mind. Pure bred men are few and safeguarded diligently. The New World is divided not only geographically but also through distrust, political agendas, hunger for more power, and the hidden struggle for freedom. There are some who believe in men being free and there are factions fighting a war to bring men to power again. The world is going to change. How and will the change be for the better is the question!

Things I loved:

The idea behind the Venus World was one of the reasons I was attracted towards this book. A unique plot that I haven’t read before and the realistic storytelling had me transported to a world barely balanced in a future that was frighteningly possible!

This is the first book by Hywel Richard Pinto that I have read and am so glad I found his books!

All through this book, the author’s lucid and vivid narration had me sitting engrossed. Not only was I invested in the story but also left comparing fiction with reality. We, too, are in the midst of a virus pandemic and facing an uncertain future where political agendas, scientific experimentation, distrust and power hungry agencies are all present!

Things that could be better:

While I enjoyed reading this book throughout, there are a few scenes that had me feeling uncomfortable and because of them I think this book is more suited to adult readers. At a few places I felt that descriptions could have been more concise, the scene switches more smooth, and the story pace could have been faster at places.

Also I felt the need of a back story for the rulers. The in-between from the terrorist attack to the new world felt missing. A little told about this time  and how the Queens became Queens would have added more reality to the story.

Conclusion:

So many things are happening and the thrilling ride to a happy ending will keep you glued to the book with fear and excitement. I prayed so hard for a happy end, and then was left with a satisfied wide smile at the end! The ending leaves the readers anticipating a sequel with more danger, thrill, and intrigue ahead.

All in all, The Venus World by Hywel Richard Pinto is a must read book with a unique plot, fantastic world building, engrossing narration, and an ending that leaves the readers happy yet anxious, anticipating more danger ahead. A scifi, dystopian novel that will be enjoyed even by readers who normally don’t read these genres, I give it 4 out of 5 stars and Njkinny recommends this one to all readers above the age of eighteen. So, go read this book. It is not-to-be-missed.

  • This is a timely depiction of what we will become if this pandemic will not be addressed. This pandemic and each other’s hunger for power and fame, I cannot imagine where we will be in the next 3 to 5 years from now.
